Post your latest brake job

To no surprise, Centric brake shoes on a Corolla with drums had poor stamping, with adjuster slots too small and with too many large burrs to slide the stock adjuster into. First Brands brake products are to be completely avoided these days imo.

Not done it yet. But I saw the toyota front brake pads to be at 2,5 mm when doing 5-tire rotation 2 weeks ago. Gonna order Bendix pads soon. I've been using Bendix brand since forever on all my vehicles.
I’ve always been curious about Bendix. Never used their products, but that would probably be my next choice if I weren’t into Hella-Pagid stuff right now.

Off - OEM Toyota pads and rotors
On - Duralast Gold pads, made in China by Baofeng Brake and Bendix PriorityOne Rotors from Amazon, also Chinesium.

I’ll be ribbed for this. But I like these rotors. Cheap and they’re Geomet coated like Powerstop and Bosch/Textar/Akebono rotors. Bendix calls it something else - MAT Holdings has the rights to the Bendix brand in the Americas from Garrett.

Bendix pads are similar to Duralast Gold, BrakeBest Select/Import Direct and Carquest Blue/Platinum. MAT Roulunds India makes them. And they supply the parts store programs. Volvo also uses MAT as a supplier(Dan-Blok has been a long-time Volvo and Saab supplier and a aftermarket choice for European cars), Mercedes Star Parts pads are also made by MAT.

Curious - why not try to buy those pads from a different source if they’re made by Baofeng, to avoid the Autozone markup?

I originally wanted the Indian-made pads. These were going on a taxi, so having the lifetime “warranty” would be nice.

In hindsight, I would have used PerfectStop from the local parts house or ordered Akebono off Rock. The only pads I’ll order from Toyota are “warranty” pads, not the TCMC(AZZxx part numbers) ones.

‘97 4Runner 2wd. Brakes were pulsating.

Tried to get my brakes done at a local Pep Boys Tire and Auto, but they wanted me to wait 5 hours, and they weren’t sure they’d could get it done. This was with an appointment.

Ordered the Raybestos kit from Rock auto with rotors, pads, and clips.

Unfortunately, it kind of turned into the brake job from heck. Maybe the Hulk was in charge of tightening bolts until you pass out, but it took a two foot cheater on a breaker bar to get the caliper bolts loose. Once that was done, I see that the brake hoses are cracked and flaking. Spiffy. Off to O’Reilly’s for some overpriced brake hoses and one of those one man bleeder things.

All-in-all, though, it probably took less time than Pep Boys wanted, if you don’t count the trips to 2 O’Reilly stores to get 2 hoses. And my brakes work.

WK parking brake replacement 2.webp

Changed the parking brake shoes on my 2007 Grand Cherokee a few years ago, what I found was the coating on the OEM shoes flaked off and jammed the actuator which caused the brake to stick on. Trust me these inside the disc rotor drum brakes are a pain to replace because the hub is in the way. You need a good set of drum brake tools. But, very nice to have a good strong E brake again!
For regular brakes I switched to coated rotors because plain iron rotors get rust on the inner and outer circumference and don't last more than 4 years, I am getting much better life out of the coated units.
When I launch/retrieve the boat, I need a parking brake that HOLDS! Salt water and the boat weights 5050 lbs on the trailer.....

My younger adult son and I just re-did the front brakes (3rd time) on my 2005 Jeep Unlimited (LJ). I bought it new 21 years ago. 154K miles. 2nd set of Duralast Lifetime Warranty pads (these were free due to warranty) from Autozone, new rotors from NAPA (used a coupon), and rebuilt Raybestos coated front calipers from Rock Auto (which were at least 30% cheaper than local stores).

2008 CR-V 130x miles. Rear Bendix pads, clean and lube pins, etc. Left rotors alone.
Everything looked great except lugs were waaaaaay over-tightened. Sheesh. I guess 200+ #ft is the new 80.

2021JGC. 45k miles, redo of a job just done 10k miles prior. #1 son had it and overheated fronts severely, warping rotors and glazing pads. I think he rides the brakes. Installed new Akebono pads F & R, new Raybestos coated rotors and bled brakes. That was good, able to flush the system again, nice clean fluid coming out. Switched the car out to #2 son, who got violently ill while finishing up the job and wound up in the ER with severe flu symptoms. Quite a day. Fortunately, both the brakes and the son ended up fine.
