That should have been 2014 Scion XB. Yes, the 2.4 XB has considerably more torque than the XD 1.8 and feels to have lower gearing as well. Getting 24 locally requires easy driving. It will do about 27 on Interstate driving with terrible aerodynamics. Although it's a much smaller car, the XD only weighs 300 lbs. less. That will do 35 mpg on rare highway driving. The old school 4 spd. auto trans are most of the blame for lower fuel mileage. A econo car the size of an XD, 40 years ago, weighed about about 2000-2100 lbs. The XD weighs 2750. ABS, A/C, power windows, locks and more safety in doors are the culprits.
These days 2700lb is pretty light, that's about what my focus wagon is and newer fiesta is around 2600lbs. Our Outback is 3600lbs which impresses me all the more with it being able to match the Focus even with AWD.

This was on the way back from a nearby town, coming down about 300' in elevation in 10 miles.
I just filled up my car today and averaged over 48 MPGs on the last tank of gas.
I got MPGs in the high 50s last week on a 70 mile trip.
Most of my driving is around town and I seem to average in the mid 40s around here.
I've never averaged below 42 MPGs per tank to my knowledge.

The plug in is at about 230 mpg since new. It will go down on the next 300 mile hybrid trip on gas soon. Some people are in the hundreds, much further than me, if they use the car around town all the time. Mine is all on free to me charging, the city and state government, and a hardware store pay for it. 10 gals of regular gas over 2300 miles. Due to two 300 mile trips in hybrid mode. I noticed gas went up since December when I last bought any, now it’s $3.55 at the Costco. I still have over half a tank almost 3/4 from Dec. Basically insignificant fuel cost, to me.

2020 Ram 1500, 5.7 etorque. 3.21 gears.

17.8 mpg, 60/40 highway/city. Display showed 18.5 mpg, so it is fairly close.

The tank has a mix of 89 and 91, but closer to 91.

I suppose that does pass for lighter weight today. Still, it amazes me how very heavy all vehicles, even tiny ones are now. My '82 Dodge D150 weighed at 3600 lbs. without spare, on a scale. Eons ago I owned a horrific German Ford Fiesta (1980) that weighed 1850 lbs.

86 Chevy K20 was at 9 last I checked. The carburetor is in horrible need of an overhaul. It also sees short trips and farm use so that doesn’t help.

2016 Nissan Versa SV 1.6L CVT. I purchased it in Feb. 2019. Hand calculated mileage has been as follows. Worst tank was the first tank I ran though it in cold/wet weather at 42.345 MPG, best tank 55.656 MPG in hot/dry weather, average MPG since purchase 49.189 MPG over 17161.6 miles tracked. A large amount of my driving is secondary roads with high deer population where I usually drive in the 40-45 MPG range. The dash computer is very optimistic on the Versa often showing a tank average of 55-60 MPG. I have an '02 Ford Escort that's my knock around car. I usually check mileage on it but haven't kept the records on it I have on the Versa. It usually gets 30-33 MPG.

Posted this here before. 23019 VW Passat with Budack engine. 42+ mpg on trip to FL from PA and back. Around town...about 33 mpg. These are figures done by dividing miles traveled by gallons purchased to fill up the tank. I generally run mid-grade in this car.

17 Corolla. Digital display reads 41-43 most weeks. When I divide gallons into miles driven, usually comes back as 38-41 or so.

18.7 vs 15.8 mpg in the rental '19 Silverado vs my '02 Silverado. Both with the 5.3L, except one has a 6 speed and fancy aero stuff. Same route driving to work.
