Forgot to mention the d.i.y. oil change of the SHELL full syn 5w-30 ( SN/GF-5 ) was done 3/17 . Not sure if helped the gas mileage .

At my previous fillup (100% gas), I calculated 19.9 mpg over about 12 days' driving, 70% city. Yesterday, after a week, I filled up and got 21.9.

That's a 10% increase over the same routes and with no more highway running than previously. Differences: slightly warmer temps at night and quite a bit warmer in the daytime (summer is already here by my standard), possibly a shift from "winter blend" fuel to "summer," and 6 oz. of MMO in the 18-gal. tank.

Ya know, this winter in particular, I have spent less time cleaning the snow/ice off of the cars and the engines have been idling "less" time while doing so and still the MPG is the worst in all of our cars. Yes, it's been a cold winter but, we have had as cold or colder temps here where I live. I have often left the vehicles engines running in the driveway for 45 minutes while I snowblow'd the driveway/walkway. And our MPG on those tankfulls of gas weren't as bad as they are these days.

I have been reading my MPG since I was a kid(40+ yrs). It's something that I do by habbit now! Keep a calculator in each car glove box...Anal, I know!

My daughter has been complaining about her MPG(mazda3 2.0) this winter compared to last winter. Just recently, 25mpg with 2 trips from Buff-Roch on the same tank of gas.
My wifes Lexus RX(a pig at best)14mpg is worst than ever this winter.
My Altima 2.5...Same thing(20mpg and dropping).

I'm blaming the fuel!

Gee! I can't wait for gas prices to go up to $5.00/gal

I've noticed the EXACT same thing in my car and my parents cars. People I talk to also say that, even though it's been a cold winter, for some reason fuel mileage is abnormally low this winter. I hope it doesn't carry over to the summer blend fuels.

Maybe we should start a separate thread about this issue.

I did really well on the last tank. 359 mi on 13.5 gal = 26.5 mpg in mixed driving.

It was running really well too. I think I might have gotten some underblended E10. Also had about a 75 mi jaunt down a nice twisty Farm to Market road with an average speed limit of 55mph. That would have helped the average but not 3-4 mpg overall. I think it was that and the absence of ethanol combined with some fortunate prevailing winds. A perfect storm of good circumstances because I certainly didn't drive any different

Current tank is back to it's 22-23mpg avg. And it's driving like it always has on E10

Overall m.p.g. for both YARIS since new :

2008 sedan base model w/ 4 speed auto :38.41

2010 3 door automatic + power package :36.3

Was out storm chasing yesterday and didn't really push it hard - top speeds weren't above 70 mph and it was all highway with lots of putting around. A/C on intermittently. Got the best tank I've ever had in my Corolla. 44 mpg!

Averaging around 25mpg on my '98 Regal with 245,000 miles. My drive is 70mph with about 13 stoplights over 40 miles. Not the best for gas mileage really, and I run the AC every day over 60 degrees. I got almost the same gas mileage on all my 3800 cars: 88 Lesabre, 97 Grand Prix, 89 Park Avenue, and my 98 Regal.

Last fill-up was 39.8 mpg on my 96 Mirage. 1 40-mile round trip with speeds between 55 and 60, the rest (75%) was city driving.

Last fill-up on the WRX was 21.4 mpg. Good amount of city driving, and I do tend to drive it like I stole it.

This week so far I've run 340 miles on 13.5 gallons which comes out to just over 25 mpg. In comparison to previous weeks running 6oz of MMO with the fuel and getting ~360 miles/13.5 gallons I believe I will continue to run the tried and true MMO in my fuel.

I did a little experiment with my Corvette to see the difference in fuel economy between non ethanol gas (Shell's 91 octane here has no ethanol in it) and the ethanol enhanced stuff (Petro Canada 91 octane has up to 10% ethanol) I set my cruise control at precisely 100km/h and then reset the AVG MPG portion of my trip computer. On the first test I ran the non ethanol Shell and by the time I got to the end of the off ramp it was reading 32.5 MPG. I let that tank run out to almost completely empty and filled again with Petro Canada's ethanol enhanced 91 octane. I repeated the test, resetting the trip computer at precisely the same point, and also keeping the cruise control at precisely 100km/h. In both tests I never had to hit the brakes, so the speed was 100 for the entire test run (except for when I coasted on the off ramp, and I turned the cruise off at the same spot in both runs too) On the second test I got 32.6 MPG! I was expecting the ethanol stuff to kill my gas mileage, as I've previously experienced a 10% drop when I ran ethanol enhanced Sunoco Ultra 94 compared to the other non ethanol fuels. So I really can't explain how I'm able to still get such good mileage with Petro Canada's ethanol enhanced stuff (perhaps it really doesn't have ethanol in it even though it claims to have it?? or maybe Shell's 91 now has ethanol even though the pumps say it doesn't??) Either way I really can't complain, this car gets crazy good gas mileage if I keep it at the speed limit on the highway! And the funny thing is, it's actually got the worst transmission/axle ratio combo possible for fuel economy, with the automatic and the optional 3.15 gears. The best combo for fuel economy in this car is the 6 speed manual with it's 0.50 6th gear ratio and 3.42 rear end ratio. Second best for fuel economy would be the automatic with the base 2.73 axle ratio (the automatic has a 0.70 4th gear ratio)

I think that is my best tank ever doing my work jaunts. Usually its more like 12MPG.

210 miles from 12.133 gallons = 17.3MPG
Filled up with ethanol free gas this time.
