Got a 1993 Chevy S-10. Used Wolfs Head 5w30 if I changed on my own. Used whatever 5w30 the oil change place had if I took it there. I think in the end, a garage used 10w30.

I had a 1996 Chevy C1500 Silverado 5.7L that I bought from my dad's neighbor for $700 in January 2011, it had been sitting for a year. First oil change was PYB 5w30 and a MicroGuard oil filter. Then I switched over to using Castrol GTX HM 5w30 and Wix filters.

Don't remember if I responded or not so I'm going to now.

First two cars were mid-late 70's Impalas. 10w40 with AC-Delco filters. Brand was whatever Giant Auto Supply had on-sale...in the old fiber cans that you had to use the combination opener/pour spout to get at the oil in the can.

1979 International Harvester Scout. 304 v8

Havoline SAE 30 weight in cardboard cans.

International was on their way out of the car making business at this point. I got a good deal on this as the 1980 models were already out and that ended up being the last year of production. It was a tough vehicle even with the Chrysler TorqueFlite transmission. International concentrated on big trucks mainly after that.

International Harvester was the predecessor to today’s Navistar for those unfamiliar with the history

Good idea; interesting reading thanks!

My first oil was whatever was on sale... usually it was Quaker State, Castrol or Valvoline @$.79 per quart that went in...with OCOD and 2500-3000 mile changes.

First car was a 1972 Int Scout I bought used in 1977, 304 V8. I ran 10-30 Conventional 10W-30 Tropartic with a Fram filter. Wish I still had that truck, VERY reliable.

Rotella T6 in a 1986 Mercedes Benz 300SDL.
Recently switched to Chevron Delo 400LE synthetic 5W-40, i gained a half bar of hot oil pressure.

O'Reilly's house brand 10W-30 and a OCOD filter. Vehicle was a 1980 Jeep CJ5 with the AMC 258 inline six. I was a dumb kid, back then I believed whatever was cheapest was best and that was the combination I went with. Although, I changed it frequently since that thing was one of the easiest rigs in the world to change oil on. That engine was the only part in that entire rig that never gave me any trouble whatsoever. I learned very quickly that J-E-E-P stood up faithfully to it's name over those years: Just Empty Every Pocket!

Bagged groceries at the local grocery store, saved $200 up and bought my great uncle's 69 Ford Falcon. Rust bucket, lived outside all its life, but only had 53k on it. He bought it new. 200ci inline and three on the tree. I put regular old Valvoline 10w-30 in it and an FL1A filter. Wish I still had it but I have my dad's first car ever, which is way cooler. This......

Me, not knowing I would be the keeper of this car someday...
Don't let the date stamp fool you. I was 29 years old in 2011. It's a picture of a picture. Dad told me he always ran Castrol or Valvoline 20W-50 in it. As it goes together, she's getting ALL Amsoil, down to the brake parts cleaner!

Got an early 90s f150 v6 from my grandpa
Work truck. No radio or carpet or cruise
130,000 on the clock

I filled it with the old Pennzoil Platinum 5w30
And a fram tough guard

Then I took it on a 1,600 mile round trip across texas
It went back to another family member, still going!

1952 Ford flathead V8 folowed buy a 1938 Dodge flat head six. SAE 30 in both. Same for the next 5 or so cars. Somewhere around 1969 I started using Sta-Lube 10W-40 in daily drivers.

The race car got Trop-Artic 50 race oil

My first hand-me-over car was a 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT when I lived overseas, ran mostly on 10w40 because that's the lightest stuff I could find.

Then the first car I bought when I came to the states was a 2002 Sentra 1.8 , drove it until 150k miles and fell for all the "hype" and ran Mobil 5w30 and sometimes Royal Purple. One day I joined thecarlounge and learned about GC-0w30.. and I saw the light

The first time I ever did an oil change in my own car, I used Mobil 1 5W-30.

Learned lots of car/truck stuff from that man (gone now) … after plenty hard work he’d take us fishing … and he could teach on that subject as well …
Oh, that Ford had a Franz TP filter when I got it and kept it going …
