Portland men search for Sasquatch, die in Washington forest

Willard, WA is not down on the river, but is only 1,253' elevation. The river there is Lake Bonneville, the first lake of the Columbia dam system. I believe the lake surface is around 80' elevation*. Temps in Willard were high 30s to low 40s with some rain. Again, weather that would not have scared us off, but serious for flatlanders. Ah, the good old days.

*If you look up the height of the dam you will get something like 177' but that is down to the bedrock. The average head (drop of the water through the turbines) in only about 62'.

There's a book that covers EVERY known death in the Grand Canyon. It's a fast read and fascinating, with the majority of people just not understanding that the bottom is WAY hotter than the top, and they die from dehydration.

Here we see Texans with severe dehydration and altitude sickness all the time, esp during ski season. Add in a few beers at lunch and things can get bad quickly.

Been there, done that. I went on a ranger guided hike down the South Kaibab Trail. The ranger recommended getting back up (everyone on their own) before noon. As I returned, I saw couples going down with no pack and maybe a 500 ml bottle of water between them. I had a 3L hydration pack and a 1L Nalgene bottle for myself, leaving earlier in the morning.

Clothing choice could have been a factor if they suffered from hypothermia. Too many wear cotton in cold conditions.

You might be surprised. A lot of otherwise sane and rational humans believe in the existence of cryptids. I like to entertain the idea, it's a fun thought exercise. But I wouldn't put myself in danger to go searching for them, no matter what!
People convince themselves to believe all kinds of unbelievable stuff & have for centuries. Many die in pursuit.

Eastern & Western world religions courses are eye opening.

They should be hunting for DB Cooper too haha. Sorry to hear they passed away. I personally have always wanted to visit the area for any clues of DB Cooper or Bigfoot but know finding anything would be slim.

Hopefully satellite phones will be as affordable as cell phones in the future. My friend and I even got lost in the woods while squirrel hunting. It was our first time hunting that area. Satellite phones with GPS will add an extra measure of safety.
