Been there myself more than once. Put a car out for sale and BOOM it's gone! Sometimes that's a good thing.
But seriously, the worst thing you can do is rush into a purchase. Be patient, your car is looking for you, too.
BTW, I sold my S2000 quickly for a profit. Purchased at auction and while I would call it fun for five minutes it simply was too noisy and buzzy for a DD IMO.

I have had a couple cars sell fast but I always had a backup.
Rent something cheap for a few weeks and take your time. I really didn't mind the new Buick Regal I had in FL see if Hertz can get you one. I wouldn't buy one but driving one around for a bit wasn't painful, as say a Sentra or something like that would be.
