Plug change on a Jeep GC 4.7 - easy?

A friend has a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7L V8. Original plugs have 70K on them, and she's got some minor starting issues: first turn of the key takes it a while to start, but if you turn the key, cycle it off, then turn it again it starts right up. This happens warm or cold.

I figure the plugs are a good place to start at any rate.

Anyone know if these are easy to replace? She lives out of town, so I haven't had a chance to take a peek under the hood...of her car. (As an example, my Expy's plugs take 3 hours to change, not something I want to tackle on an out-of-town trip)

I also figure I'll change out the fuel filter since it's due as well, but I think I'll pay to have that done.

Any ideas on the starting issue are most appreciated as well.

FYI when you first turn the key from OFF to ON the fuel pump kicks on to build up fuel pressure. You may want to leave it in the ON position for a few seconds before you hit START. May have a leaking injector or a plugged fuel filter. In any event 70k is time for at least new plugs.

Thanks Maniac. Thought of that, let the fuel pressure build but didn't really make a difference.

Fuel filter is also likely original, so fuel pressure could be part of the problem, at least if the filter is partially clogged.

I don't understand how some people can just completely ignore their owner's manual and drive their cars into the ground...

I think she puts more effort into caring for her landry than for her car. At least she keeps it clean and detailed...
