If this is a cutlass ciera and the ball joints have already been replaced it's trivial to do them again! And the parts are like $18 a side!
If they're OE there may be rivets holding them to the LCA, a hassle. Replacements bolt in. It's a 20 minute job per side.
I have seen ball joints (TREs actually) tighten up when suspension sags as described by Bluestream. Their wear patterns are most evident at ride height with the wheel straight ahead.
