Plan B Oil Filter

Picked up a few spare WIX filters at O'Reilly's to have on hand and checked out the Microguard (store brand made by Puralator, ~$2 cheaper). It was made in China and didn't appear as well constructed. Until I come upon a filter that checks out better, looks like I'll be sticking with the South Korean-made WIX.

Update:

Found (2) Puralator filters at K-Mart. Only oil filters for my make and model that I have found to be Made in the USA.
After a look at the quality of the filter, I decided not to buy them. I was quite surprised. I sure hope that isn't their typical batch for drop-in filters like mine...

I am still looking for a made in America by an American company cartridge. There could be more profit on a Purolator going back to Germany than labor going to China for a made in China one.

Usually I agree with you labman on american companies but if one is made in china and the other is made in the US. I will be buying the US one because I am supporting an american worker. I really could care less about supporting a chinese worker. But if the company is owned by Germans but employing US workers I will ALWAYS use the german US built one over the american owned chinese one. Even if it is inferior.

I may have to partially agree with labman here though.
The net funds retained in America could be more important.
But then again, the alternative is interesting as well.

They both have their upsides and downsides...

Wal-Mart's Super Tech is made in the U.S, for my model anyhow.
Sure wish some of the higher quality brands could muster the ability to do the same...

Higher quality or higher priced? Unfortunately last I looked, the ST 9018 was close to $6.

Quality.
I think one of Fram's "top" filters runs almost $10 or so for the 9018 model, and it doesn't do much to impress my wallet out of my pocket, to say the least.
