My son is in basic training in Fort Jackson, SC. They have a website where occasionally they post pictures of recruits in training. While scanning their website today, I found a picture of my son. He's the one carrying the bag. I'm very proud of him and ask all bitogers to keep him in your thoughts and prayers

Nice! Just make sure you call it "Basic Training" in any future headings. The Marines go to "Boot Camp".

He'll most likely enjoy himself immensely and make many lasting friendships while learning a lot about himself and others.

Awesome!!!! Thank him for his service. This coming April will be my son's 9 year anniversary in the Navy. I know what it feels like to be a proud parent!

I went to my brother in laws graduation at Ft. Leonard Wood in August, 8-9 years ago. You talk about HOT! They had several guys pass out.

YES!

I see two DIs, (Drill Instructors), in that picture. Those are the guys who will help make this period one he will never forget! What they teach these young recruits will also be very important to them should they ever find themselves in combat.

What is that I see in his face? Looks like determination! :-)

I took basic at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo in December, 1969 & January, 1970, brutal cold, rain and snow. I remember that time vividly and I wouldn't trade those two months for anything!

Thank you to your son for serving!

I thank him for his service. Ive said before, if there is one thing I wish I did that I never did; that would be joining the military. Any soldier should be very proud to serve. Thanks for sharing. He will be in my thoughts and prayers.

My father had two answers anytime we asked him; Why or how come?

1. "Because I said so"
2. "Because I told you to"

Photograph inspired flashbacks!!!

The U.S. Army does not have DI's.

No...the Army doesn't have DIs...they have Drill Sergeants...

But the Army does hand out a nifty ribbon for completing basic training...as does the Air Force. The Marines hand recruits an Eagle, Globe and Anchor, marking them as part of the USMC...no ribbons. Navy doesn't give out ribbons either, you just get to wear a ballcap that no longer says "Recruit" on it...but the Navy advances (promotes) the top performers.

Back on topic - good to see that he's holding up well. There will be some stories to tell when you see him again... and I suspect that you will see some changes in him too.

Congrats! Great to see him!
