My rich friend had been asking me about motor oil and I always declined to express an opinion because most of it is just that: opinion. Eventually he just asked point blank: What is the best oil I can buy for my cars? He has classic Corvettes, a Ferrari, a Bentley, and a few "normal" daily drivers. Suffice it to say, money is no object. Well I told him to look for Motul 300V or Redline or... a few others I can't even remember. Anyway, he bought gallon jugs of several grades of Redline, including some 0W-30, some 5W-40, some 5W-20, and some 15w40 Diesel for his Dodge truck. His boat (54' Sea Ray) has 2 big diesels and takes something like 62 gallons of oil. I was surprised he didn't order Redline for that too... Anyway, while changing the oil on his 06 Honda Pilot, he dumped in the 15w40 instead of the 5W-20 and now is worried about it. Says it starts and drives fine - no apparent issues.
He lives here in the Chicago burbs and the weather is normal spring - 60-75 during the day and 40-55 at night. Do you think I should tell him to drain that 15w40 from the Pilot and save it for the Dodge diesel, or will it work fine in the Pilot for the summer? He drives the Pilot daily for short trips. My instinct says just leave it and go get some T6 for the Dodge, but wanted to pass this by all you fine folks here at BITOG for some other opinions before I tell him to leave it and he blames me when the thing seizes up on the Eisenhower and snags up traffic worse than it is now...
Thanks in advance.
