I just went to Walmart earlier today. A late-2019 production PH7317 has the regular orange can with the grippy top

290-something day of 2019 was the date code, so the filter was only made about a month ago

Now if you would please order a PH7317 from Amazon so we could see what you get, much appreciated. j/k

I would like to know where that black can PH7317 comes from. Even shows it on google search of PH7317. Weird.

After looking over boats, the Mercury and a few other engines at the used dealer had these filters. Me thinks its probably the watercraft variant of a Fram Core.

What is the date code on yours?

Fram orange can and Quaker state hm oil are my to go cheap oil and filter that do fine on 5k or 6 month oil change . Accept on high performing cars

^^^^Good info. So it would appear Amazon didn't pull the pic out of thin air, and it is not a Fram core as speculated several times in this thread. I will say I can't discern the texture in the Amazon pic but could be an early rendering. Or pic just doesn't have enough definition. Was difficult for me to imagine a Fram labeled PH7317 with no other identifying mark, anything other an EG filter.

Looks like Trico is abandoning the orange can color.

Wow. Apparently the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Glad I added qualifiers to my last post. But correct, who knows what the truth is. Perhaps the first em was correct and released info that's not supposed to be out yet.

At this point, take your pick.

Fram doesn't spec the their 7317 filter for any motorcycle that I know of.

Good catch. It appears that Fram Europe is under different ownership than Fram in the US. It is not unusual to see familiar brands under different corporate control in different parts of the world. Therefore it is not surprising that Fram US customer service would not be aware of the European Fram products.

It isn't super unusual for Amazon photos to be wrong. Since Amazon operates globally, maybe somehow a picture from their UK site made it over to the US site.

The amazon photo shows German on the text - so quite possibly European (or even Chinese 'Renken' etc. filters faked) Fram filter.

Europe seems to get better quality filters, even fram! They have chevron pleating and an overall better bike quality
