What's the asterix say after the statement "at 5 microns" on the box?

Probably something like ...
* in our dreams

I lay odds that it's a marketing/printing layout mistake. That's a moderate sized filter; nothing large. There's no way in Hades that thing is full flow at 10gpm, 99% at 5um and yet has capacity to last a long time. OTOH, Harley folks do tend to over-spend on their maintenance. Maybe the * = "use only for 500 mile OCIs" ?

I've looked all over for a better description of Harley's "5 micron" filter but it is not conclusive. What does that mean exactly?

If it means "filters down to 5 microns" then that is meaningless without a corresponding efficiency. Like I've pointed out before, my window screen filters 5 micron particles too but I'd never want that as my oil filter.

What if it we're filtering bean oil, beanoil ...€

LOL conclusive would give you too much data. All filters should have to be rated at about 10 micron and that same result listed clearly on the box!

Harley Super Premium 5 filters are 5 Micron Nominal per the box. Though there was at least on dealer website claiming 5 micron at 98 or 99% which I believe said material is no longer on.

I can buy genuine SP5 filters for $8-11.00 around here.

This is a premium guard filter not a genuine filter, we discussed them a while back, it is a relatively new entry to the market and I don't like the way it is packaged and labeled to mimic a genuine part.

I've posted a number of genuine ones here.

Pinoak - what's the asterix (*) statement say on the box?

^^^ No surprise the asterix is not addressed. Thanks for checking.

I'm certain it does filter to 5 micron. Maybe not at 99% I'm not sure but to some degree I'm sure it does.
It looks and feels well made. I won't know exactly how it looks inside for a really long time though.

But it could be made by someone else... Be interesting to see who manufactured this filter.

It is indeed a premium guard. The media was vended out to be made by some American manufacturer (champion labs?) and it was assembled in China.
Might be an identical media to the OEM Harley filter. I notice this premium guard has a dome end bypass valve though and the HD super 5 is a threaded end.
If I intended to use this for what it's meant for I would probably just get the authentic HD filter. I think this is fine though as PG has shown to hold up.

Yes it does, and so does my window screen. Without an efficiency rating that isn't meaningful.
