Hi guys,

I called a distributor in my area to find out the price of Petro Canada Supreme Synthetic either 0w30 or 5w30. Thus, a case of 12 of 0w30 costs $ 77.76 CAD /plus taxes, and 5w30 costs $ 89 CAD /plus taxes. I was surprised because I heard many BITOGs say a bottle of 0w30 would costs approximately ~ $5.40 CAD, however in my case is not.

Any suggestions?

Yes the 0w30 could be had for about $5.40/L on a case in the past but i think that was at least a year ago.
You could try another PC depot to see if you can get the old price.

BTW, I believe the '06 Sienna has been back spec'd for the 0W-20 grade? The Toyota 0W-20 only costs $5.70/L.

Yes it must have gone up again. Last case of Supreme Synthetic 0w30 I got at $66.84 for the case, plus enviro fee and tax, 5w30 was $87.24 and Duron 0w30 was $81.72. This was from Boucher & Jones in Waterloo but also about a year ago.

Didn't happen to get a price for the Supreme 5w30 did you?

Heffner Toyota charged me $5.75/L for bottles, didn't matter if I bought 1 bottle or a case. A jug was a bit cheaper I think.

Yes, you are right. But I was thinking to get 0w30.

So how many cases that you have and how much you are willing to sell it especially 0w30?

Are you using 0w30 or 0w20 on your cars? have you done UOA for both? any difference noticed?

Because I am short tripper and I usually reach 5k miles in about more than 6 months. I think 0w30 is best for all seasons, unlikely to 0w20.

If your a short tripper, all the more reason to use a 0W-20 particularly in the winter months.

CATERHAM, how is 0w20 with all your cars so far. Did you see the difference in saving gas?

I don't measure my fuel economy per se and it's not the reason I run a 0W-20 in a couple of my cars (including the Bimmer in the winter). I do have oil pressure and oil temp' gauges in most of my cars to monitor things and therefore can safely run a lighter than specified oil in many cases. I do it to maximize power primarily and give myself more flexibility if I don't alway wait for the oil to be up to temperature before using maximum rev's.

Having said that, the Mobil made Toyota 0W-20 with it's 216 viscosity index and high AW content is the most fuel efficient oil available. Verses a 0W/5w30 oil you'll likely save about
4% in fuel economy. That may not sound like much but it is as far as the difference that one oil grade can make.

In cooler weather a 0W-20 will give you fuel efficiency benefits (potentially), and quicker warm-ups. By cooler weather I mean Canada, since its not the Sahara here and your car isn't a tow truck: I'd use 0W-20.

But that all being said I regularly use the 0W-30. There's nothing wrong with it, there are definitely "stouter" 0W-30's out there to pull longer OCI's with, but the 0w30 itself is good if you want low temperature starting benefits at a good price.

But in any car that can take a 0W-20, use it. There's no reason to go thicker especially with the weather cooling off.

That's still not a bad price. Go buy 12 bottles of M1 or Syntec at Walmart or CT when not on special, and see how that goes.

Heck, the local gas stations' prices on PC Synthetic are cheaper by the bottle than WM or CT on M1 or Syntec.

This is so true. Even the major brand conventionals in a 5L jug aren't much cheaper than this when not on sale. I will say that the current deal at Walmart of GTX $11.88/4.4L or Valvoline 13.88/4.73L beats it hands down but even at my 5-6 OCIs a year isn't a difference of $100. Compared to my $5-6000 fuel bill for a year, well don't really seem like much to worry about and I don't have to make room in the basement for 6 jugs!

For me it also brings it very close to the price of the TGMO/M1 blend. If I can realize even a 1-2% fuel economy benefit from the high VI oil brings it that much closer. Not yet counting the fact that I could probably extend my OCI on the blend.

Yep, unless something's on special at Walmart or CT (or Partsource or NAPA for that matter), stay away. There are far better deals out there on most of the majors. There's no way I'm paying Walmart's regular price of $26 on a 5L jug of Pennzoil Conventional.

RCWC has Mobil 1 and Mobil Super far cheaper. The distributors do better, too. It's pretty bad when a PC gas station can sell you synthetic or conventional by the litre cheaper than Walmart can.

Oddly enough, I mentioned some months back that Flying J in Saskatoon had a relatively good price on Pennzoil Conventional in the 5L jug, at around $18 or $19. I was there a couple weeks ago, and they jacked it up to $32! Are they nuts? How do you justify a price increase of 70%?
