I just had a head gasket replaced by a very competent Saab dealer. Since some coolant had gotten into the sump, they said they had changed the oil using Saab 5-30 semi but suggested I do it again very soon.
I drove 50 miles home and kept noticing a slight chemical, pepperminty smell inside the car. When I got home I jumped under the car to drain the oil it while it was still hot, and noticed the oil in the sump was still very thick - about like 10W30 at room temperature - considering that I had just driven 50 miles (though the outside temp was about 25F), and had the same pepperminty smell (sort of like CRC-5-56 mixed with hot oil) as I'd smelled in the car.

So what I am wondering is:
- Does genuine Saab oil smell like peppermint?
- does oil with antifreeze in it smell like peppermint?
- or did they put something other than motor oil in my car?

yeah don't use it in the crankcase. I use it in the fuel system in my street machine, I mix xylene in with the gas, and the mmo is a good lube for that.
