People with high mileage vehicles who run supertech full synthetic oil

I've been using SuperTech/Tech 2000 for over 25 years. Here, in the rust belt, the engine will outlive the body 99% of the time. Two weeks ago, I drove my dad's minivan due to the wrecker, it was an '06 Uplander 3.5L. For the the last 15 years or so, it's had nothing but jobber tier oil filters and bulk oil based on the OLM. Further, any time I've serviced it, it got SuperTech conventional.
Can that rust be prevented if a person is proactive with anti-rust maintenance?
 
My Subaru developed severe oil burning around 60k. The inside of the engine was spotless on 5k oci’s, pistons were not. Valvoline R&P cleaned up the pistons and stopped the oil burning. My point is not all oils are the same and engine/conditions dictate what oil to use.

Interesting. What were you using prior to 60k and what did you use after the Valvoline clean up product? Thank you.

500-35k miles M1 FS 0w40
35k-100k miles Valvoline EP 5w30

100k-110k Amsoil SS 5W-30 started clean up.
110k-130K Valvoline R&P finished clean up.
130k to Current(140k) ESP 0W-30

Yes rust can get the cars first but with engines newer than 20 years you want the best for your engine still.
Almost every one has oil pressure based variable valve timing with sensitive orifices that needs to be kept clear, clean and free of varnish.
You have internal components now that you dont want getting eaten by acidic oil, internal water pumps, wet belts and so on.
 
It can be slowed down. you buy more time but rust wins in the end. (At least if you drive a lot like me, it washes out).
Yes, this was my scenario. My dad did have it undercoated, but not religiously, and the high wash areas were the ones that eventually caused problems. Wheel wells first, then the floor boards and eventually the brake/fuel lines.
 
For the longest time I always used Mobil 1 in my 13 4.8 Silverado. At some point I switched to ACDelco Dexos Full Synthetic (Dexos 1 Gen 2 at that point). When doing a heavy trailer pull I stopped for gas and checked the oil. Pulled dipstick and smoke came out. That had never happened before with the Mobil 1 (even in same circumstances). Back to Mobil 1.
 
Funny thing, this thread being brought up. This past weekend i lent my neighbor across the street a filter wrench. He was changing the oil on his 115K mile, 2020 RAM1500 with SuperTech Syn 5W20. I asked a few questions to which he replied.
  • "Nothing but ST 5W20 has been used"
  • "Nothing but FRAM oil filters"
  • "Changes his oil every 5K miles religiously"
  • "No issues, funny noises or concerns"
  • "Was unaware of Kirkland oil"

BS'ing with friends, bringing up things learned on this forum, 100% of the time these people get glassy eyed over the idea of discussing motor oil on the internet! Ha ha.

I was this guy for the longest except mine was QS or VL. Always Fram. Didn’t know any better and really didn’t care to. To be honest I didn’t even know about Supertech until I came here. Never really looked around just grab my stuff and went on my way.
 
The super tech oil here is made by Warren. I do not use it exclusively but over the years have used various names made by Warren.

Both daily driven and both currantly have traveller oil in them. Don't know who makes that
 
In my thread I tried not to do the blame game but many read between the lines. 🤣
I ran valvoline ep in my old camry for a singular oil change and that’s when it decided to throw a bunch of metal shavings, larger ones in my oil filter, likely rod bearing material.

Every pleat looked like that. Not saying it’s the valvoline oils fault but I will never use valvoline again. This was only after a 5k mile OCI. Im pretty sure your engine got so dirty because of the high molybdenum count in the valvoline. Great for reducing wear but it causes deposits to form from what i’ve heard.
