And that's not to take away from those who want to spend $10/quart on oil! There is one tried and true fact about Amsoil and other boutique synthetic oils: IN A SOUND ENGINE (ie, one that has a maintained ignition and fuel system, no air leaks, and no internal coolant leaks!!!) they are capable of at least, if not more than twice the drain intervals of conventional oil. PROVEN.

But will they magically make your vehicle go past 300,000 miles? Especially when other pressing factors are at play, like the trans, brakes, suspension, frame, rust, paint, tires, glass, molding, fuel system, ignition system etc. etc. etc.? All I have to say again is, prove it!

Case in point: my pop's 98 Blazer now has 225,000 miles. Engine is great - has the same oil pressure as the day it rolled off the assembly line, and gets above avg EPA fuel mileage (especially after I put new plus/wires/cap/rotor in it!) (I posted pics of the trip computer if you want to search...). It's on it's 2nd trans and the suspension and the rest of the truck is literally falling apart around the motor. Mostly because it's been driven on rough Rocky Mountain roads.

How would $10/quart oil have helped this situation???

Someone please tell me how in the heck Amsoil engine oil will help a transmission or brakes, suspension, frame, rust, paint, tires, glass, molding, fuel system, ignition system etc, or any other part of a vehicle that have nothing to do with the engine? I never said that. Neither did anybody else. Amsoil will simply help an engine last longer.

On second thought...doesn't Amsoil help protect the other components through osmosis. I believe it magically seeps through the metals seeking out underlubricated parts to heal them by way of that secret ingredient they won't tell us about over at Amsoil headquarters.

My goodness....when did I ever tell anyone their oil sucked? I guess foot in mouthitis is catching....

All I said...originally, was that cheap oil is cheap oil and nothing more. More or less. Good for an impromptu oil change until better product can be bought and put into the crankcase.

Moderators?

Why do you insist on letting threads / topics such as this one, get so out of control on these forums? This happens much too often anymore.

Hey Guys

You all need to let it die.

Old Bob is probably one of those guys that sit quietly wearing only his fruit of the looms, in a dark room playing on a computer, hoping his mom don't catch him.

This thread has gone beyond the "exchange of ideas" stage. It went past that point the second old Bob used the term ignorant to describe some one with a differing opinion.

I am not the forum police and have no standing here on this forum, so my opinion is just that, an opinion. While being a member here I have learned a whole lot about oil. I can even remember the days when my opinion was much the same as Bob's, had to have synthetic. Since that time I have learned that whie synthetic is a good product, and in some rare cases it is absolutely necessary, in most situations a good coventional works very well. And saves me a pile of money. Bob has not reached that maturity yet, and like some others here, he may never get there.

As I sit here and read this thread, I came to the conclusion that Bob is haveing a good time messing with us. Go back and read the original post starting this thread, it adds no value, it has no valid question. The original post was/is merely a red flag being waved in front of a bull. I like most of you took the bait.

Well I sure wish we had an ignore feature on this forum, cause Bob would surely be on my ignore list.

Agreed. We have a life besides this board. Don't [censored] about how the board is moderated if you don't use the NOTIFY feature to let us know that we need to step in and moderate a thread.
