Canada Post is completely funded by stamp and parcel rates and 0% by the government. They also generate a profit every year. My FIL worked there for 40 years. This all came to light when the previous government was trying to axe pensions and CPC along with the union went to the media showing proof that it generates revenue for our country on-top of properly funding the pensions and covering their own costs and that it wasn't subsidized by the tax payer here.
Keep in mind that our rates are higher than USPS so this is most likely why.

And here, the CP union is asking for exemptions from standard accounting practises, that any profitable business operates under, so should be no problem for CP, right?
