My wife bought Pennzoil Ultra Platium 10w30 Motor oil by accident with no return because of a closeout. My truck uses 5W30 I see the ratings are good. Is it possible to use 10W30? Pro's and Cons
the truck is a Silverado 2008 4.8 V8 with 127K miles with no issues. Thanks in advance

I wouldn't see a problem using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 10w30 in your truck, especially in warmer weather in Texas.

+1 I would actually switch to 10w full time anyways. I wouldn't be concerned.

The man lives in Texas. Winter there is warmer than your spring. He can run it year round, without an issue.

No need to remove it for the winter as long as temps don't get below 0F. 10w30 will be more shear stable and have lower NOACK than 5w30.

If you needed advice you should have just asked your wife. She's the one that recognized the bargain and made the purchase. Ask her to explain the cold weather rating and why you should use the 10w30 with confidence. Having access to an expert like your wife should be a comfort with it comes to maintaining your vehicles. Even Kira would agree with that.

Her logic was she did not know what the 5W was, but being it was 5 bucks cheaper a jug that 10W is bigger than 5W so it must be better right? It has 5 more W's than 5W so it is scientifically better.

Her logic is a little frightening, but actually appropriate, given your location.
