Hi everyone! What is everyones scoop on Pennzoil Platinum Synthetic 5w30 motor oil? anyone have bad experiences with it? I just put some in my car and i really like the smoothness when reving and it feels alot better than semi synthetic blend. What a diff. Also what OCI should i maintain..i'm thinkin 8k.

What kind of car and engine are you using this in? What kind of driving do you do?
I use the 5W20 version in my Honda's with 5,000 mile change intervals, but they are operated under severe conditions. My soon to be ex-company car also uses the 5W20 and it sees mostly highway miles. I change that between 5,000 to 9,000 miles.

Platinum is a Group III oil (not a true synthetic like Mobil 1, RedLine, Amsoil, or Royal Purple)
It's probably O.K. for 8K miles. But I would do a Used oil analysis at maybe 6K miles before going that distance. That's just me though. The reason for that isn't really the oil itself. Its to make sure you don't have issues with your engine that could cause problems in such a longer milage interval.

Unless the chemist that designed this product tells me different "and to date he has not" the base for Platinum is EOP, not Group III.
I am considering this oil for the wifey's 06 Camry. The manual calls for 5k oil changes no matter what so I figured a syn would be best due to the short trips she does and what not. Either th platinum or Mobil 1 5w30.
There was some contradictions as to whether Platinum was EOP. Johnny..Werent you going to confirm that in a meeting you attended in July?? Or can't you tell us?

Johnny has maintained all along since speaking with the chemists et al involved in the creation of this oil that it is EOP. I don't know how many time or in how many different ways he needs to state that.
I have a 1990 Cavalier Z24 with 99,966 miles on the clock. I just overhauled the engine for a cracked cylinder head about 2 yrs ago and haven't driven it much. I put a crane powermax camshaft in it and stiffer valve springs, melling high volume oil pump, etc and new gaskets.
When rebuilding i everything inside looked great except for coking. No real visible sludge or anything. all bearing and stuff were alright. The number one camshaft bearing worries me the most, as it looks a little scuffed but no real gouges.
I already recieved my Analyisis kit from Blackstone so when 6OOO miles comes i'm ready to rock on that.
Hmmm i like to drive spirited everyday for distances greater than 10 miles 50% hwy/50 % street ...i wondering if that would classify as severe? hmmm something to think about now lol

I wonder where the stories "Platinum is a Group III oil" come from. Though I haven't tried platinum yet, its been clear to me for some time that platinum is an EOP oil. Perhaps one of the experts can eleborate on just what EOP is and what its strong points are.
i'd like to learn about this too.

I am using it on my 93 integra. So far so good. It has been in my engine for
2,100 miles /3.5 months. It still very clean and I gonna change it net month because this is my first time I use so-called synthetic oil.

Does anyone know what may be in this oil that makes it special but that a regular spectro analysis cannot see? Right now I want a reason to go with this oil. M1 is so easy to get that it is like ordering Vanilla ice cream, simple, good, and BORING. Heck I run GC in my 11 year old pickup (no usage I might add), and I want something great and semi-exotic in the Yota. Just throw me some bones here
