I just got off the phone with Anya.. the main customer service person at the small Pentius office in California.. I asked her if she was even sure of the efficiency list she sent out to Fantastic here: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/pentius-pcxl-extended-filter-efficiencies.372955/

After she consulted with the owner she clarified to me those efficiencies were for the PLB filters which are the lower line filters. https://pentiusautoparts.com/oil-filters/ .. Initially this was not made clear to him when she asked him about filter efficiencies and she apologized and asked me to update this site.

XL Extended Life Filters are 99% @ 20 microns... https://pentiusautoparts.com/ufxl-oil-filters/

It's always good to get on the phone and clarify to make sure anything from an email was absolutely spot on.

Might have been better to have posted this in his thread so there's a better connection.

Did Pentius say what filter model(s) the efficiency was based on? They show no reference on their website, nor which efficiency test was used.

When I asked specifically about the XL filter line they provided that graph data and this was their email reply. I saved the email.

Fantastic: "And the efficiency data you sent only applies to PLXL line of filters."
Anja: "this is for the PLXL filter line."

If the graphed data is for their standard oil filter line then surely they could provide an XL oil filter data sheet of sorts. I do see where it says that on their website about 99% @ 20 microns but that was why I went looking for data to back it up. Unfortunately, you're still in the same boat since there is no data sheet to back up their website claim on their XL line. Until then I'm still skeptical. Maybe you can press them for some sort of data on their XL line of oil filters to share here as proof?

yep.. she was referring to that PLXL in the email.. she said that was a mistake when she clarified with the owner... a mistake on her part.

Understood, Which brings us to more need for evidence of more than just a phone call. I appreciate your effort but we need more than that. Especially, with their inconsistency here is even more disturbing.

yeah.. I plan on speaking further with the owner to get the other info.

She didn't mention that but she did ask which model I was using which is the 7317.

All - I was looking into buying the Pentius PLB7317 for my Honda Odysseys. Note these are the lower cost line from Pentius.

If anyone has any any updates on what the real efficiency @ 20 microns are for the lower cost PLB line are.

@fantastic posted this in another thread. I believe this ended up being for the PLB line.

Thank you. That was very helpful.

There was discussion in another thread (pasted below) about the both the inlet and tub sets of holes being smaller than optimal and possible reduced oil pressure. Would this be a concern for the Pentius PLB filters and perhaps a reason to not buy them.
Obviously would want the oil flow to be good to reduce changes of engine wear.

Shouldn’t be a problem since these are built to meet or exceed OEM specifications. A properly designed filter would take hole size and hole count into consideration. The bypass hole size would also be accounted for.

Not bashing Pentius too hard here, but don't they use Chinese or Korean contract manufacturing to build these (similar to PG)? Wouldn't they be somewhat at the mercy of whatever their manufacturer used? (I'm sure they're fine, but true, exact efficiency numbers seem unobtainable).

You're correct. Mine are made in South Korea (Pentius.)

I have some standard PG filters also (PG4612.) Bought two cases. One made in China, the other in Vietnam.

Pentius has been around selling filters for a while now. I don't buy they don't know. They're just not sharing much. Part of that could be the fluctuation or filter manufacturing changes like you mentioned but still they should know what's going on and provide information upon request. There are quite a bit of these coming out of SK so there are some that are not PG affiliated. What is their excuse on those.

"The Pentius UltraFLOW filter line was launched in the aftermarket in 2004, through an aggressive marketing campaign which focused on a high level of media visibility, various promotions, and exhibits at such functions as the annual AAPEX Show and other similar events.
Pentius offers particularly broad filter coverage, with over 1,200 filter items available, representing over 80,000 vehicle applications going back to 1946, and up through current models. And, Pentius takes pride in often being first to the aftermarket with filters for new model vehicles."

If I understand the Pentius website correctly when GM dissolved Deawoo they retained some suppliers and facilities in South Korea. Pentius was a partnership to maintain a North American presence for distribution of parts and filters.

My plan is to do a detailed comparison between Pentius and PG soon due to similarities. I have several emails out to both companies.
