Pentius PLB3614 C&P <1000 miles

This filter is from a case I bought for next to nothing on an Amazon deal. I primarily bought them for my B&S mower but they also fit my Scion. I recently did a piston soak and refill with Valvoline Restore & Protect on this car and wanted to swap filters after a few hundred miles just in case the soak broke loose a bunch of junk.

This filter has 910 miles. I'm letting it drain for a bit before I unroll the media to see how much gunk it caught. I can already see a good bit of carbon sitting in the can.

Update: the filter media has 60 pleats with a metal crimp where they join. The center tube is round punched metal.

Each and every one of the 60 pleats was full of captured carbon. I'm glad I swapped filters when I did.

I have no way of knowing if all that carbon is due to the piston soak or the Valvoline Restore and Protect loosening it up. I replaced the filter with a Supertech and I'll probably remove it in another 1k miles to see what it has caught.

I didn’t change the oil, I just replaced the filter and topped it back off with Restore and Protect 0w-20. I put a Supertech 3614 back it just because it was the closest to the front of the shelf.
