They picked that up from Quaker State.Dated around 1980 when they went thru their recall issue. Its marketing.Pure and simple.Like the GM 10/100,000 mile powertrain coverage. Its meant to put the hurt on Ford/Chrysler/Toyota/Nissan if warranty is going to sway a sale.So far, that doesnt seem to be killing the competition at all.I bet they (GM)drop that one shortly.

Good marketing maybe. But great oil and great rebates when you sign up. Like you said...nothing is bad.

Dont qualify neither but---got the 10.00 Gift Card rebate form from Shell. Acutally printed 2 immediately; sending the GF to Wally World tomorrow for another jug of the Platinum! Little things we like in life.

Even if your vehicles were new enough, tig, you'd have problems. They require you to use the Pennzoil exclusively. That might make either the motor or you blow up.

If you just want the rebate, its not too hard to find VINs from low mileage cars for sale online...

You do not even have to do that. Just email Pennzoil for a coupon I receive them twice a year. It is normally $3 off for PYB or $4 off their HM or Synblend, or $5 off of PP or PU. For 5 quarts purchases. Sometimes I receive even better coupons.

I just about fell out of my chair last night. I saw that Pennzoil Canada was offering a $5 prepaid Visa on the purchase of a PP oil change in July, and a $10 one for PU. I suppose they could have offered a $1,000,000 card for PU, since that's how hard it is to find up here, but that's another matter.

At least they're starting to offer the odd rebate and coupon up here, without leaving us at the mercy of WM and CT.

Double rats....

I was considering selling one of my cars, in order to buy a slightly newer one.

But there's two problems I see:

(1) The 15-year / 500k mile warranty [now?] only comes if you use Pennzoil Ultra, which I'm unable to find anywhere.

(2) I'll more than likely only have driven 150k miles in 15 years, which means that time will expire with 350k miles of "potential" left on the life of my "pennzoil-infused engine".

Guess I'll just keep what I've got.

Or look at XOM's warranties. They cover much the same stuff, with no limitations on mileage or time. After all, if using the specified oil causes a failure under normal usage, it's either a flaw in the engine or it's a problem with the oil. If the oil caused the problem, does it really matter whether the vehicle has 50,000 miles or 500,000 miles?
