exactly

why not remarket? change someting slight if need be, then call it an extended drain, im sure it is ok 4 extended drain the way it is, just not marketed as such?

Correct..but this oil has been proven it can be dispite..

I'm not a huge fan of the PU in my car now. It doesn't seem to run as smooth, have as much power, or get as good gas mileage as it did on PP. I think I'll be sticking with PP once this full length OCI is done.

That's strange, because my Corvette's engine seems to run exactly the same on Ultra as it did on PP and the MPG did not change at all either.

its still $28.00 here at Walmart even with the dust on the container and the date on the bottle is 2009!
If they woul dlower the price people will buy it thats a no brainer..this is the reason we buy oil from conoco we get an excellent oil at an great price

It's clear at this point that SOPUS didn't do enough to differentiate PU from a very solid Platinum product. It should have been marketed like Mobil 1 Extended Performance, as an extended performance oil, and it may well be. But....

Still on sale here for ~$3 more a jug than PP at Wally. But when sitting next to PP it's difficult spend the extra and pick PU over PP.

All that said, contrary to some of the foolish comments here, PP and PU are both excellent products.

Exactly.

SOPUS should have just phased out PP and went with Ultra as their sole syn oil.

seriously 3$ difference? My new toyotas require 10k mile/12 month OCI's with any syn 0w20. When Toyota stops doing my service at the 2 year mark I will be looking for the best oil witin a price range. with 10k mile oci's I aint gonna let the price of a gallon of gasoline keep me from a better product. Pennzoil ultra , castrol Edge or the Toyota off the shelf dealer oil whatever I percieve as best and meets a sundry level of convenience. I actuualy prefer to a dealer oil change as i get older and value my time off more.

The only problem is that Ultra isn't available in a 0W-20. You'll have to use Platinum, if you want to use a Pennzoil synthetic.

Not really just about the $3. It's that the two jugs sitting side by side have little other than a 'name' to differentiate. Knowing more about PU, you may be willing to pay the extra. Average consumer looks at the two products, buys the less expensive. Now, if Ultra said Extended Performance or something similar, it could make a difference. That and PP is also a high quality product. And yes, not having a 0w20 Ultra product also hurts it's sales.

Yeah both in gray jugs that look the same and seem to say about
the same thing.

Has anything with Ultra in the name done well? Like in Ultradrive? They should have stuck with the precious metals or go to the gemstones. People unnerstan' that.
