Merry Christmas Everyone!

I was awakened early this morning by the office and when I was finished on the trusty MacBook, I decided to walk outside and check all of the fluids on the cars as they were both cold.

I had just changed the oil on the wife's car (time constraints so I used the local Mobil Quick lube, which has always done a good albeit expensive job.)

The oil on my car was 1/2 quart low, and the coolant was low as well. The coolant on the wife's car was very low. I went to the AZ down the street to buy a quart of PU and a gallon of premixed coolant. It has been cool here, and we have both been running the heat. Maybe they were low on coolant from the factory?

Guess what? No PU on the shelves! The guy there said the PU didn't sell at all (except to me apparently) so they no longer carry it. Wal Mart doesn't have it either. I bought a quart of PP, and a gallon of Prestone ($5 rebate.)

Looks like I am going to have to change brands. I will probably stick with PP though, although I am open to suggestions.

Merry Christmas to you too!

I'd stick with the PP.

PP is near the top. You are not getting a second rate oil by using PP. I will look at my local Walmart next week for Ultra. I do use Amsoil Ea filters however. No one else has nano fiber technology in a filter (yet).

WalMarts by me seem to be selling Ultra OK. Been by with shelves empty then restocked next day. Hope it stays around. I was fortunate along with more than a few BITOG who just loaded up through Amazon at under $3 a qt delivered.

What is causing low coolant?

I was lucky to get that deal on Amazon, it took a month to get it but a nice Christmas gift. I don't know why a bust, my Walmart is still stocked.

I would agree. PP is a very good product to begin with and I think Pennzoil missed the boat not marketing Ultra as an extended drain product. That would have been the only real life advantage it may have had over PP.

Yes that leak considering what it could mean, would be my biggest worry. Generally anything someone tells me working in a parts store unless it is the mgr. has always meant nothing.

im sick of hearing about Pennzoil Platinum / Pennzoil Ultra / Quaker State Ultimate Durability for the year. i ran a thread on here asking how many bought on price? guess what? better than 90%

Okay. You hate Pennzoil and Ultra, blah, blah, blah.

Obviously with you it's all about M1 and nothing else.

But tell the truth, for once: you don't pay full retail for M1 do you? What!? YOU buy based on price, too? Shocking!

i often buy m1 or edge on sale, because i like em and use em all the time, i DO NOT buy a diff oil based on price/or oil i dont normally buy!! thats the point my friend! price may influence when i buy, but it sure does not influence what i buy! note the difference?

I am not sure. Her car was below the low mark, mine was right at the low mark. I topped them up, and I will keep an eye on them. If it happens again, both cars are under warranty.

I am wondering if running the heater (possibly for the first time) filled the heather core and made the level drop. It's a stab in the dark, but it does seem odd for both cars (identical except for some power options on hers) would both run low at the same time.
