Pennzoil Ultra is a bust!

This was so predictable. You would imagine Ultra was an answer to EP... but they just advertised "cleans even better."

Doesn't matter what this board knows... it matters what the masses perceive. 2 that seem identical, I'll save $3.

I fully bit into the Mobil 1 Extended Performance advert... but going with 0w40 from all the testimonials on here. I see the Ultra target group as too small. Especially with no extended drain over Platinum advertised.

Pennzoil ultra , castrol Edge or the Toyota off the shelf dealer oil whatever I percieve as best and meets a sundry level of convenience. I actuualy prefer to a dealer oil change as i get older and value my time off more.

The only problem is that Ultra isn't available in a 0W-20. You'll have to use Platinum, if you want to use a Pennzoil synthetic.

Not a problem but if its all the same I will probably just pay the dealership to change my oil anytway when my 2 year free maintenance is up. I had many good used oil analysis with any syn I tried, in Fords, toyotas , and a mitsubishi.

PP is great. So is Castrol Syntec Mobil 1 seems to do just fine too.

To the point of the thread. I do agree it is a marketing bust since the price point of two similar products is too close. nothing wrong with the products but the shelf space wars have gotten out of hand.

i think all in all the ritzy vette guy might buy pu, but ppl w "common" cars will not, unless they change their marketing to an extended drain

Sorry friend, it's the top selling motor oil in the US.
Would you provide a link to back that up? I would like to see it.

I'd like to see it as well. I wouldn't be surprised, but I'd like to see evidence of it. This article from 2000 says that the best-selling motor oil globally at the time was Castrol.

I think the point of this thread by the author was that PU is a bust in his location.I can find it easily in my neck of the woods if I need any.

Blame the store doing the inventory or lack of the public's interest for PU in that specific area.

PP is $23.50 & PU is $26.50 in my area.
A plethora of jugs!

What is causing low coolant?

I am not sure. Her car was below the low mark, mine was right at the low mark. I topped them up, and I will keep an eye on them. If it happens again, both cars are under warranty.

I am wondering if running the heater (possibly for the first time) filled the heather core and made the level drop. It's a stab in the dark, but it does seem odd for both cars (identical except for some power options on hers) would both run low at the same time.

I checked the coolant on both cars yesterday- both are right at the full mark as the should be. He car was driven 100 or so miles this week- mine 400. So, for now, all looks good.

No Walmart near me in SE Orlando has it and AZ has discontined it here. I'm hoping Pep Boys has it, but I haven't been there yet.
