Pennzoil Ultra back at Walmart and yes, Purolator 20k Gold is replacing the Endurance.

Which deals? Did Walmart have a discount on PUP?

$15 off a $29 jug of oil for PUP is an incredible deal.
I got a case of 3 for $72

Everything in the range of an Xw-20 is a 20, and being thicker or thinner within the spec [range] is insignificant.

Yeah, it’s called 5W-30.
I’ve got 100k trouble free miles running 0w20. I’d like to keep 5-30 in the holster in the event that this engine would start using oil. I had a 4 banger that was speced for 5-30, when it started using oil I went up to a 40 weight and it felt like I had a plow behind me. I disagree with manufacturers on a lot of things like lifetime trans fluids and being able to use an air filter for 30k. I’m ok with the oil weight they recommend. I did use 5-30 for about trip to North Carolina in July, I figured the extra velocity would help but I lost about 10% in mpg and this was a route I had taken a few times so I had some data to compare. I remember a few years ago, there was an oil being touted as almost a 30 weight. If memory serves it was Schaefers 5-20 but can’t recall exactly.

My Advance Auto store just got the PUP and wants $41.99 for 5 qts. Glad WM is carrying it now.
Keep in mind that you'll get $5.00 off Speed Perks at AAP so the actual cost is now $37.00 and the filter (maybe $12.00 value or more) will be free so you can consider the oil to be about $25.00 net cost. The other added bonus is that you don't have to go to Walmart. When you run the numbers, the difference between AAP and Walmart is meaningless. My Walmart also doesn't take used oil so I would go to AAP anyway just to dump oil.

Or buy one 5qt get one free for $29.97 at Walmart. AAP also charges about 2x more for the filters I use than the dealership

Extra velocity is always a good thing.

And no way you lost 10% fuel economy due to the oil by going up one grade. That's preposterous.

Ok, I’m making it up. 10% in an suv is 2.7 mpg. Not preposterous by any means when you go from a 0-20 synthetic to a 5-30 Dino. I hand calculated every tank and know what the numbers were.

No one really knows. Depends on how it's stored. You need to test it to be sure it's ok. Better to store it inside, off the ground. Depends on whom you ask, but 4-5 years is tossed around here.

Goes to lawn mower duty for me..........used some that were nearly 10 years old.

It is. Blenders and manufacturers note that a 1% to maximum 2% difference is attributable to a grade change. You are claiming essentially an order of magnitude difference.

Just because you saw something does not mean you understand the totality of the cause. Seeing something is the easy part. Attributing it to one or more isolated variables is the much harder part. Fuel economy changes due to oil grade is a complicated and rather expensive test to perform, and with good reason. It takes effort to isolate that one variable which you will never, ever do in everyday driving. Considering the BTU content of gasoline varies around 4% even at the same gas station (and independently of seasonal blend variations) you put the effect of the oil well into the noise. There are tens of equally significant variables in real-world driving which you are unable to control.

Used the P.UP. several times in the '18 Accent from April to October and went the P.U.P. 5w-20 October to April . Both made the engine quieter .

2nd most quiet was CASTROL Edge Advanced w/ Titanium ( S.P.,GF-6A ) 5w-30 used mid MAY >mid October of '23 .
