For those in the Chicago/NW Indiana area, this dealer just north of Midway sells the 6qt case for $36.30. I called looking for a different Shell oil that's not available and will stick with M1 0W-40, but I know some of you like this PU Euro.

I've ordered through those guys before, but have found that the cheapest price for the 5W40 Euro (for me) is through Amazon - as a Prime member, I don't pay shipping...and the cost is still about $48/6-pack...
Note: while I love the PU 5W40 Euro in the Volvo (because the engine is squeaky clean inside and I have had a great UOA with it..), the current fill is 5W40 TDT because I am trying to use up my some of my stash...once the stash is gone and I have to pay something close to retail, I will go back to the Ultra...

I just sent in a sample for analysis from my '10 GTI. I put 10k miles on the oil, so it will be interesting to see how it held up. I will post results here when I hear back from the lab.
I tried 5.5 quarts of this oil in my 1998 Audi A4 with 2.8 V6, 30-valve engine with 160,000 miles. With this Ultra oil I often (maybe 1/2 the time) get valve chatter for about 1-2 seconds on cold or warm startups, even now in a garage where it's 70F overnight.
The chattering is common in these engines when certain oils are used, but I have not ever heard it for several years. Before this I'd been using Lubro-moly 0w40 or Motul VW/Audi Specific 5w40. My oil changes are always at 5,000 miles, with a Mann filter. The engine uses maybe 1/4 quart during the 5,000 miles, and has never had major work - just the routine cam seals replaced every 50,000 miles or so. As the subject says I'm not impressed - Ultra seems inferior to other oils that cost less (online).

5W-40
5W-30.
5w-40 Euro: Visc at 100c = 13.1 cSt; HTHS - 3.68 cP
5w-30 Euro: Visc at 100c = 12.0 cSt; HTHS - 3.68 cP

But it's a lot different at 100C 13.1 and 12.0 (maybe?). I'm really confused about viscosity at 100 C and at 150 C. What is more important for daily driving and hwy driving? I have an idea, to use "lighter" oil for better flow, so less heat for engine and safe some fuel as well, and lighter acceleration because of less an oil friction, but how is important that number at 150?
I have BMW V8, so they want oil with A3/B3/C3 and HTHS > 3.5.
So numbers are not far from each other for normal oil and Euro oil spec : 3.0 vs 3.5 at 150, and 10.5 vs 12.0 at 100 C.
So what would be damage if I'm going to use like Mobil 1 0w-30, instead I'm using 0W-30 Castrol with SPT (euro formula)

I'm driving most time in moderate mode, quick acceleration with 4,000 rmp max then cruise at speed 60 to 70 mph, sometimes taking to 80 mph, but don't do a lot VA state is crazy about speeding. I like to drive a long distance like 200 mph from DC to Philly. Sometimes I getting to heavy traffic stop and go.
And If I'm right BMW wants HTHS > 3.5 units?

Yes. And if it was my car, that's what I would use.
However, if you read CATERHAM's info, such high HTHS may not be necessary. So now it's your call: who do you trust more, CATERHAM or BMW?

Seems like it did OK, considering the 2.0T isn't very easy on the oil.
I don't see any glaring issues. On the 2010 GTI I don't even need to add any oil between 10k changes.
