Do those diesel Sprinters not require low-ash oils, or is the dealership using M1 0w-40 despite the fact that they do?

They had cases and cases of it. So I asked them what they used it for. They said the SRT vehicles and the Sprinters. They said that was the ONLY oil Chrysler wanted them putting in the Sprinters. Not sure if that helps or adds more confusion, LOL!

Which is weird because these oils only meet MB 229.3/229.5, and not the 229.x1 specs. For that they have the M1 ESP 0w-40:

I wish we got this M1 ESP 0w40! All the good things of M1 ESP 5w30 and 5w40 in the wider-range 0w40

YES exactly. when these came out there was a list. well still is here it is from this morning for an 08 sprinter

so you can see it just says: Mercedes-Benz oil specifications sheets MB 229.3, 229.5, and 229.51, which also meet ACEA and/or API classifications listed on the following chart. Only engine oils (including synthetic) with any of the following classification grades, or combinations thereof, are approved.

first it was Mobil 1 0w40, then the 0w30 ESP Forumula came out for us when Mobil was our supplier, then I believe we didn't have the $ to pay our large bill so we had to find a new supplier (Sopus), so now it comes as Pennzoil Ultra European 5w40, there is another 5w30 Pennzoil synthetic that meets the 229.51 spec we also stock that works fine but I like the 40 weight ultra as I know some of these guys like to go FAR past the 10,000 mile oil change interval.

Just found a local distributor that carries PU 5w-40. With tax it comes to about $7.65/quart, plus I've got to drive 50 miles RT to get it. I think I'll pass. I can catch M1 on sale for less and no need to drive out of my way.

Yep, with O'Reilly's having Mobil 1 0W-40 for $4.99 a quart this month. Why even bother with any other Euro oil?

The New Life version appears to be the same as our M1 0W-40.
Don't like the ESP 0W-40's much lower VI. Unless you need a low SAP's oil I'd stick with the Turbo Diesel or our normal M1 0W-40.

I am about to start my 2nd run of the PU 5w40 im my Neon SRT4. I was going to start using up some of my M1 0w40 but my local parts store is selling the PU 5w40 for $5.99 a quart. I couldnt pass it up.

This is the main reason I switched to Rotella T6. I used the Pennzoil for awhile but it was too costly and I could not find it anywhere! I got tired of paying the high shipping fees. Wally World has what I need at a good price so off I go...

What parts store is that????

Its a local private owned store. They only have two stores to their name. I dont know if its ok to post names of stores on this site.

Anyone get an oil analysis back on Pennzoil Ultra Euro-form?

Looking to help with the fuel dilution in the Speeds. Thanks guys

EDIT: In a DI car that is.

I have it where I work in Ontario, Canada at a garage with a Pennzoil Express lube in it. The price is the same as the Platinum and it's replacing the Platinum 5w40 in our stock. I can buy it for like $9/L but its normally like $15/L. Full synthetic lube oil and filter is $79.95. (Glad I don't have to pay to have mine done.)

I already have it in my 83 Caprice with the original stock 305 and going to switch to it in my Cutlass' 350 Olds once I'm due. Have 5w30 PP which I've been happy with, lower oil consumption than I've had with anything else (5w40, 5w50, etc.). I've used 1/2qt in 2500 miles. Oil pressure is slightly lower though with the 5w30 (it's always been low for the 50k miles since I put it in). Probably has over 300k hard miles on it.

Call AutoZones for the Regular PU, the Euro Formula isn't here (that I've been able to find)
