There probably isn't one.I wonder why they don't just make Pennzoil Gold 5w30 as their dexos blend.

I actually emailed Shell about this, and here is what they had to say:

Thank you for your inquiry. The Pennzoil Synthetic Blend 5w 30 which
is GM dexos 1 approved was designed to meet stringent factors
required by the General Motors for extended drain and lower
volatility while The Pennzoil gold was designed to meet the API SN
standard .

Dexos 1 is a higher standard than SN.So, the syn-blend is designed to meet a higher standard than the gold.

Specs on the pds's are the same. My guess is same oil just different label. In fact there is only 1 pds now for the syn blends.

That makes perfect sense. After all, there won't be a dexos1 blend in 10w-40 or 10w-30, for instance. I'm also betting there won't be a 5w-30 Gold blend that is non-dexos1, either.

We don't have a normal Mobil 1 5w-30 dexos1 and then a normal Mobil 1 5w-30 in SN/GF-5 only, after all. Why would Shell be any different?
