Pennzoil refused my rebate for purchase of 2 jugs!

About 7 weeks ago I purchased a jug of 0W20 Penn Plat and then realized that in order to qualify for a $20 rebate you needed to purchase 2 jugs. So back to Canadian Tire and buy another. My wife asked, "did you return the original 1 jug?" of course not, that would be a nuisance!

I scanned both receipts, entered them into the .ca website and was assured that my $20 rebate would be mailed within 6 weeks. So I set a reminder in my smart phone to verify if the rebate arrived? About 2 days before my phone reminder, Pennzoil sends an email saying because I made 2 separate purchases, my rebate was not valid.

My wife loves to be right, and I have a HORRIBLE history with returning anything. I accept that there are rules, but I didn't read them. Boo Hoo.

Sorry that happened to you.

Your experience is why I don't generally get involved in rebates. My life is too busy/ I have ample productive things that need done to play the rebate games. The entire rebate model is a process to offer a rebate that the provider has a plan to avoid paying the rebate through numerous sinister methods.

The only rebate that gets me motivated is COSTCO instant rebates, which equates to a manufacturer applied rebate at the register when I check out.

I likely have a handful of rebate "visa/ Mastercards" that have never been used as I don't want to track how much on the card, the hassle of spending more/ less than the card has programmed, remembering a pin for the card.

I mean, it makes sense to me that they'd have to be on the same transaction. Pennzoil is good about their rebates but requires you to follow the instructions fully.

Next time trust your wife's instincts! :)

Followed the instructions exactly precisely correctly, they reneged.

In this instance, I've called oil companies Customer Service Line(if there is one) and talked to a rep. They've helped me in the past and I then received my rebate money.

Also, both jugs must be identical. I would take your two jugs back. Canadian Tire doesn’t care what the issue is, but if you need to say something, just say you bought the wrong grade. Then buy two identical jugs. By the way, there is no snail mail involved in all of this. You’ll be getting a digital MasterCard.

In my entire life, I've only had one rejection of a rebate. But to your point, and likely like everyone else, I've "worried" or been "anxious" until I've gotten them. Oh, and with ACDelco, I was given a lesser amount and had to explain over and over until they gave me the right amount. That's why today I feel the way you do, better to not get involved.

Maybe 2018, I did a Costco rebate on a Samsung Galaxy S8. When I didn't get it, Costco told me it isn't us, it's another entity inside our stores, you have to deal with them. I did eventually get it.

The last two credit cards I opened were for $250 and $200--same thing, not worth the aggravation. ALLY, and Bread AMEX. ALLY took the maximum time mentioned in the offer to give the rebate, and offered no assurances along the way, but it came. Bread told me I don't qualify? What? I opened the account and spent $1000+ to get the $200. They said something like the offer ran 10/1 to 12/15. You opened your account on 12/20 so you don't qualify for the offer. Because when I accepted the "pre approved" offer, it said we will notify you of our decision by mail. A letter came, it said to call, I did, and it wanted to verify my name, address, phone, and SS, then you're approved! So apparently this approval was outside of the offer window? Boy was I angry. 3 months later, for no reason, I got $200 in rewards, no explanation. So put yourself in my shoes, and I think we'll all conclude it's not worth it. The aggravation for $200. $250. And these rebates are $10 or $20 and someone said M1 is $5. Our mental health is worth way more. What I'm realizing is we basically have no recourse if we're not given what we should be nowadays. So don't bother lol 🤣

I used to be all about rebates. Now I'm too busy with too little patience and have had some frustrating experiences.

I swore them off and I'm at that point where if I try again and something goes wrong I should only be mad at myself for breaking my rule.

I don't fault anyone for playing the game. For me, the time I spend chasing $10 or $20 could be better spent in the shop.

My Valvoline rebate was super easy. I txt'd them a picture of the receipt, they confirmed it was good and that I want it through PayPal, and that's it.

KYB initially refused a rebate on a set of shocks boight one day early before the start of the rebate- you need them when you need them- took three tries but they relented.

I bought 2 jugs of PUP at Advance Auto with there oil & filter combo deal. I submitted the rebate form on line on May 4th. I received the rebate on line June 17th. Unfortunately you can only can only use it for online or phone purchases. That's an inconvenience but not the end of the world. At the time my Walmart was not selling PUP, but started carrying it a couple of weeks after I bought it at Advance. For $30 I'm still ahead even buying it at Advance with their oil/filter combo deal. Last year I got a virtual card that could be used at a store, that was nice, but the rebate was less.
