PENNZOIL PZ-194 CUT OPEN

This oil filter and Safety Kleen 0w20 was off a 21’ Malibu for 6,000 miles. Filter made October 2022. Most Pennzoil filters currently made in China or Vietnam. This one made in USA.

It appears to be one of Purolator's finest. No acute failure so it seems to have done the job assigned.

Are the cases on these things super flimsy? I cut open a NAPA ProSelect the other day and mic'd the canister wall thickness and it was 0.012". I'd never seen one that thin. Cheap junk! But, the media didn't tear over the course of the 6 month service life so I guess it did the job.

Can you decipher a date code of D91321DG? I thought it was a Purolator but I don't know the date code stampings.

Can was kinda tough to cut through honestly.

No failures to see... that's good. I think the filter construction is not the best if it's twisting the way it is. We don't know if it was like that before use or after use so who knows if the car engine or manufacturer is to blame.

It more than likely want like this before going into service. From what I learned here and from dlundblad is that winter driving and moisture etc sometimes can cause wavy, ugly pleats. I’m sticking with his info.

Thanks for C&P Adam. Just shows why I’ll never buy a Pennzoil filter. Even Prime Guards look better than this!
