WHICH ONE DO YOU PREFER AND WHY IF THEY WERE ALL THE SAME PRICE
PENNZOIL PLATNUM CASTROL SYNTEC OR CASTROL EDGE
THANKS IN ADVANCE

Edge because it is and extended OCI oil rated for a lot more miles that the other two. Only though assuming they are all the same price. Otherwise Pennzoil Platinum.

Personally I wouldn't buy Castrol products because I hate their marketing and their arrogance that "they are the best"

Haha. If I was that way, I would have to run my crankcase dry! Seriously though, I do have a couple brands I will not buy for this very reason. I won't mention names because it doesn't matter but this company is far worse than Castrol.

Well, that is kinda the purpose behind any marketing.
I dont think any company would sell much claiming to be 2nd or 3rd rate.

Anyrate, IMO these oils mentioned are pretty much all on par.

If Buster prefers PP, that's good enough for me.
You can get Edge quite cheaply with the MIR and the ten dollar off coupon from AA.
You could have gotten PP even more cheaply, three oil changes worth at $1.00/qt using the Wally gift card rebate for two, and the SOPUS actual $ rebate for the third.
Locally, Meijer also clearanced out PP at as little as $1.49/qt.
I now have a nice sub-stash of PP, as well as 5 qts of Edge.
Now, I like Syntec 0W-30, the kind labeled "Made in Germany" on the back.
It is just another Syntec come sale or rebate time at AZ or PB, the only US sources for this oil.
I have 10 qts of it left and will use it in the Subaru, as it is what is in there now, and my slightly informed impression is that the Subies really need something a little heavier than a 5w30 starburst SM.
Any of these oils will serve you well if drained at reasonable intervals.
Based upon at least one UOA here, Edge is not an extended drain oil. PP is not promoted as such. Syntec 0w30 GC is a real long drain oil.

Obviously, you don't think with your dipstick! Sorry, I couldn't resist.

I actually would like to try German Castrol but it is just so expensive. Five quarts of Mobil 1 0w30 is about $22 whereas five quarts of German Castrol is about $35 and then you still have to buy a filter. Sure, I can do a long OCI with the German Castrol, but I can do the same with the Mobil 1 and I don't think the German Castrol is really that much better.

Look for the deals.
AZ has an oil change special every now and then which will get you five quarts of GC and a decent filter for ~$25.00.
PB does the same.
That is stock up time.
Never pay shelf price for any oil.
The deals come along every so often.
Take advantage of them.

I just went out and bought some PP tonight. Upon bringing it home, I printed and filled out the rebate offer form and put it in the mail. I have never used PP before but most everyone on here likes it and I have seen it in the UOA forum with good results. Plus, at a dollar a quart, I figured I couldn't go wrong for trying.

I will say this though, it felt weird to walk out of the store carrying a jug of motor oil that did not say Mobil 1 on the side. I am trying to rely on the word of others and some good UOAs instead of marketing.

I would use either of the three with full confidence. For me, it would come down to price, but since that's not a criteria in this, it would probably be my mood at the time

Not sure I agree with that but everybody has their own opinion.

Castrol Edge seems to me making some ground on this forum, it was belted from the get go....... selling it to you guys at a discount seems to have worked wonders for them. Castrol is much cheaper for a PAO oil here in Oz. Platinum is sold at ridiculous prices, even more expensive than Castrol Edge. For only a GRoup 3 oil. Shell helix Ultra is on par with edge and Mobil 1 and i say fair enough, slightly different base (XHVI) to the PP and is quite popular.

I just mean they are listed in order quality wise.

I'm not saying PP won't give a better UOA than Edge or anything, but basestock wise... they are listed in order of quality.

I love PP myself.
