Not much info on it here. I have searched and read everything i could find on this site.I have a 98 Acura TL 3.2 W/ 152k on it that is leaking at the rear main seal. How is Pennzoil High Mileage at sealing leaks? Is it as good as the Fan favorite Valvoline MaxLife? I use mostly Sopus products for engine oil and Valvoline MaxLife ATF in my transmissions. I have never used a High Mileage oil. Looking for the best product to help w/ the leak.

I like Sopus High Mileage oils, but honestly the only thing that will stop that leak is a replacement of the rear main seal. I do feel the High Mileage oils cut down on consumption, and are a little thicker in their respective grades. Makes me feel better about wear protection anyway.

You're right, not much info on it here. The one UOA I've seen indicated that is uses the same add pack as Pennzoil conventional which is so highly regarded here. You couldn't go "wrong" with it by any means.

Since you like SOPUS, have you looked at their more recent HM offering, QS Defy? Just looking at the specs, the Defy seems to be the better oil IMO and it costs less too.

+1 here with the QS Defy. Looks promising. That said, only two brands that I know of have High Mileage oils that meets the "energy conserving" logo. VAML and Castrol. They didn't used to, but do now. None of the other claim it....hmmmm

It's related to viscosity I believe? (Someone correct me if I'm wrong) Many High Mileage oils tend to be of higher viscosity within their given grade.

It does seem the only High Mileage oils discussed around here much are Defy, Maxlife, and Mobil 1 High Mileage.

MaxLife red bottle worked for me on the 99 Accord when it started to consume oil. It was down a quart and I merely topped off with it. No more measurable consumption. Happened around 135k and sold it with 166k.

I've used the old Quaker State High Mileage that had slick50 premixed in it, the. The Quaker State High Mileage without it that replaced that, 'twas all in the 10w30 flavor...
Did well, quieted the truck. First was with a super tech filter, second was with a Purolator classic.
Consumption went down, as did the small leak.
After that I ran everything from 0w20 amsoil and other synthetics, to 5w40 HDEO.. 2.3l ain't picky, and the leak never came back.
Right now it has FAR nextgen Maxlife, another High Mileage oil. Haven't driven it since July, parents use it though, awaiting after deployment to do another OC. Will probably be a 18 month OCI with 7500-10000mi interval. I'll prolly do a used oil analysis.
I have confidence in the Maxlife nextgen

It has a bit more zinc, but it's cold weather properties suck compared to Pennzoil High Mileage' based on the pour point, I'd speculate the Pennzoil uses better base stocks.

Very. my Malibu loves it. No change in mileage and it runs quiet in cold weather. No complaints about QS Defy

IIRC the Defy has a higher VI and a lower NOACK, it is also advertised as a "syn-blend" whereas Pennzoil High Mileage is not. I think the Defy likely has the better basestocks of the two.

Both great oils, I'd run either in a heartbeat, but thus far I've always ended up opting for Defy and have not been disappointed.

Kinda ironic as their main line counterparts (Quaker State Conventional and Pennzoil Conventional) appear to be the reverse, the Pennzoil conventional looks to have the better base stocks which you would expect due to price point and marketing.

Ok...that is strange. You are correct, I looked it up and Mobil Super High Mileage does get the starburst energy conserving logo...but what is really strange is that Mobil 1 High Mileage does not???? What??

What is Mobil 1 high mileage? Does that even exists? I've seen Mobil super high mileage but I've never seen anything from the "1" line that is a high mileage variant.
Is this another Mobil product that us northerners aren't getting or.......

And I'm with KCJeep. I've used both the defy and the pen soul high mileage and both oils worked fine with no complaints however I'd lean towards defy simply because its a synthetic blend vs a conventional.
And I don't understand the whole zinc part of the discussion. Who cares if its got more zinc. Unless its got more phos, which is the most important part of zddp then its just printed on the label for marketing because most people are clueless when it comes to zddp so they see zinc printed on the label and they think they've got something special when the reality of it is more zinc is meaningless unless the additive package has an equal part phos.
As has been said countless times here focusing on a single aspect of an oils formulation doesn't represent an accurate view of the lube as a whole.
With today's additive packages containing everything from hexagonal boron and titanium and tri-nuclear moly and all the other high tech stuff who cares about zddp. That stuff is Stone Age compared to what available.

From what I can recall when high mileage oils first came on the market none of them were resource conserving and its only been the past couple of years that I've noticed the resource conserving label on some brands
I think that it misses the mark due to being very thick on the scale however it could be many things why they don't meet the criteria and being thick in the grade could be just 1 of many different things.

OP. Firstly there is no better way to rectify a compromised gasket other than changing the gasket however if that's not an option for whatever reason I suggest liqui-moly/lubro-moly motor oil saver.
Its available at napa and is like 6 bucks a can. Its a DI-ester from what I recall and has a nice shot of boron. Its great stuff, its cheap and unless the gasket is physically missing it will stop the leak.
It raises the tbn of the oil so it also helps add a few extra miles to the oil change interval too which is nice in case a guy is waiting on better weather to change the oil or something like that.
It takes about 500 miles to take full effect. I've used it in many vehicles of friends and my own and in every case the oil leaks were eliminated or reduced to the point the oil loss was no longer measurable and no more oil puddles on the driveway.
I've also seen the stuff stop consumption via the valve guides too which I've never seen before. Usually once they are worn enough to cause consumption its not possible to bring them back.
I've found liqui-moly/lubro-moly to make absolutely fantastic products and everything they make lives up to the claims they make whether printed on the labels or posted on the website.
They are found at napa. I haven't seen them anywhere else unless you check eBay.
Motor oil saver.
No additive is a replacement for actually fixing the offending part however this stuff will help nurse the engine along until it can be fixed properly or sold.

The Mobil 1 High Mileage oils are API SL rated not SN/GF5 rated. Its in the add pack.

I have been running the Pennzoil High Mileage. My Ranger was seeping a little oil and leaving it's mark on my driveway. After a few hundred miles of the Pennzoil High Mileage it doesn't drip at all and also doesn't use a drop in 5k mile OCIs. Im happy with it.
