Pennzoil 5W-40 at ABC Discount Auto

I am so shocked! I just saw Pennzoil 5W-40 at my local ABC Discount Auto store! Back label says ACEA A3/B3, Mercedes 229.3, VW 502/505, BMW and Porsche approvals. $4.49 per quart! This is great!

What does VI tell you about an oil? For a 5W40, is 175 a good VI? Is 163 better or worse? Sorry - Just learning. . .

175 is better than 163 the higher the more innate multiviscosity behavior in an oil and the less (varnish vausing)VI improvers it needs to achive a spread. Fred..
