1 quart of make-up oil
No oil filter change (previously would change half way through OCI)
Still using the K&N air filter (as silicon will indicate) but it doesn't seem to be increasing wear metals. It's been in for about 2 years.
95%+ highway miles
Didn't feel I needed the expense of the TBN again.
Mainly doing the UOA for an annual checkup.

Insolubles (oil oxidation due to heat, use, and blow-by) increased a little because you didn't have the oil filter
changed, but at 0.3% they are still perfectly normal. Wear continued to look good especially for such a long oil run.
The only thing that kept this from being perfect report was the high silicon. This level may show the need for a fresh air
filter but as wear looks good we don't think this is something that you need to take care of immediately. No other
harmful contaminants were found. You're doing everything right. Try 13K miles next time.

Mileage of my post should be "152,932"
I copied my previous UOA and didn't change the mileage.

Thanks for posting it!

So, the oil filter was in for the last 2 OCI's? How many miles on that filter?

Since you went over 12k on the PP, it would have been nice to see the TBN, but I understand.

Normally in past OCIs, I had changed the filter midway, top of oil, and proceeded the final half of the OCI. Filter was a PureOne only for this OCI.

Didn't post the TBN because I just did a UOA on my other 300M using PP @ 10K. 2000 miles is only a month for me so I wasn't worried about the TBN.

You'll notice that this is a perfect comparison with M1 5w/30 EP and PP 5w/30. Numbers are NEARLY identical.

It can be compared at 5K miles and 12K+ miles.

Takes me back to the comments given to me by Blackstone Labs in my last UOA for this vehilce.

We have found that brand doesn't really make much of a difference in how an engine wears --
it's mostly how you drive it, and how much metal it tends to make, that determines how long you can run
the oil.

If a moderator could change the title of my post, it should be

Pennz Plat 5W/30 | 12,318 miles | Chysler 300M

and not the mileage of the vehicle. Sorry, doing things too quickly during break.

Excellent report I can only imagine how much better it could get with a paper air filter! WOW! It does compare nicely to the M1 EP but it did not best it in anyway! I would call it a tie. I love how everyone is always busting M1's chops about produceing more valetrain wear and such but in this case PP produced more wear across the board. I am not busting on PP either just so you know only pointing out that people get an idea in their head and they ignore anything that does not support their idea. This just goes to show that M1 is no worse then PP for excessive Iron or valvetrain wear etc.... I gurantee no one will be saying "PP cause's spiked iron levels and more valvetrain wear....." because it is the current "golden boy" and M1 and Redline have always been the wipping boys and the easy targets!!!

Is that a drop in K&N or is the cone style? I ask becuase the drop in style seems to do a bit better probably because the airbox helps pull some of the dust out of the air before it makes it to the filter while the cone style ones just seem to let anything and everything in!

I'd like to consider it a "tie" as well. Please remember too that I did not change the oil filter during mid OCI with the 12K PP but had performed the practice with the M1. So, this may or may not have some sort influence.

The thing that "breaks the tie" for me is price.

Drop in style K&N with the appropriate/supplied gasket in place.

Right! That's why I've got a $20 jug of PP ready to go to replace the $27 M1 EP.

Anyone know what it takes to get a moderator to change a post title??

Thanks.

Wow $27 for M1 my Walmart sells all Flavors that come in the 5Quart Jug for $21 for the jug and PP is $19 so with out the AAP BOGO sales M1 is not that much more then PP.$2 is not a deal breaker especialy when you consider all the viscosities I now have to chose from in M1 that PP does not have available at Walmart in the 5 quart jug!

Very true that the filter change might have made a slight difference but not tot he wear metals.I can not imagine your filter holding more then 1/4 quart if that.

I have a boat load of PP too since BOGO at AAP is too hard of a deal to pass up! My only point is that people bust the [censored] out of M1 and often ignore the fact that PP gives close to the same numbers in UOA but get's over the top praise! I have three boys I make sure they they all get praise when they do something outstanding. I do not tear one down constantly and buil one up constantlya nd leave the other one to just do his own thing! Their is a lot to be said for consistency! I hate hype and this board seems to go through cycles where it needs to find an oil to praise and make the golden boy. It never fails either that what ever oil it might be that get's chosen it is always compared to M1 and is always better then M1 in every concievable way!

I realise that M1 is not the best oil on the planet but lets at least be consistent and ballanced in our reviews of the stuff. To listen to this board you would think M1 was the worst oil on the planet and not worth the money. Truthfully though it is one of the most consistent and high quality products that one can buy on the retail market. In fact every time Amsoils does their test's M1 is almost always number two over all jut behind their products!

I have to disagree somewhat with the lab's statement on the silicon. If you look at the PPM per 1000 miles the silicon actually decreased per 1000 miles of driving. Now silicon is not like wear metals, it is more of an absolute that when it reaches a point should be an issue, but seriously, 7000 more miles then the previous sample and it only increased 4 PPM. You do have an increasing trend on the silicon but not a huge spike. It looks great IMO!

I may have been more concerned about the previous sample that had 12 PPM with only 5060 miles

It would take too long to go back and correct everything anyway...that would be like a friend that would pester every sentence written, and would still miss some incorrect spellings, because they are so far from the intended use of the word or phrase.

For example, consider your comment....the phrase is "YOUR friend", not "YOU'RE friend".

Just amazing. It started as a Pennzoil Platinum UOA, to Mobil 1, and now it's a spelling thread.

Why don't we go a little further off-topic and talk about checkers Vs chess.
