PDS Rant

Where do you find Mag 1? I never see this stuff at the parts stores.
I found it while perusing Lowe's online needing to find something to get the free shipping being minimum $45. I was low on 15W-40 so I looked for some on Lowe's and wouldn't you know Lowe's sells it and for less per quart than super tech which is my typical go to. I had to try to look up a pds and it's approved for Volvo and Cummins spec and with 4.2 hths. So not only guaranteed good but a bit cheaper and because they're transparent I'll keep rewarding them and will buy more even if the price goes up to match super tech which it hasn't at least yet. I already used up two 10 quart jugs and have one left.

I'm also thinking of getting 2 quarts of mag 1 80w-90 to try out next time I order more oil given that the product family pdf says it's suitable for limited slip service fill but not the 85w-140. I don't know of any other limited slip gear oil that's close to the $6.48 per quart like mag 1. All LS gear oil is double that or more.

Not standardized, not regulated, why bother , only weirdos like us look at them anyway.
I read that and was about to say that we're not weird just a unique kind of oil enthusiasts but then I zoomed in on your profile picture and you know what I agree we are weirdos and I'm fine with it now.

I find particularly Castrol seems to have very lacking data sheets on some of their oils.

Then on the other hand i've found data sheets from small brands like parts store brand oils over here that have extensive info even indicating stuff like Zddp and Calcium content.

I've emailed large companies asking about specific stuff and they either did not reply or said they do not give out that info.

I've emailed small brands that have replied quickly and told me straight up without a problem.

Honestly quite surprised you found oil cheaper than supertech lol. The only other cheaper oil I know about is Kirkland Signature but even then, they're both made by the same company Warren Distribution.

Yeah me too, I wasn't even trying to find a replacement but I did anyway. It's still the same $29.99 for a 10 quart jug from a year ago.

Castrol typically reports limit values.

I've lurked their website many times. They have quite the portfolio. And yes their PDS are full of information. Far more than most other lube companies.
