PCV question

I hear so much about checking to see if the pcv system is working properly, but what is the best way to check it? i put a new valve on, make sure the hose is clear, is there anything else? also, if i put my finger on the hose/valve, there is a lot of vacuum.

Air has to get INTO the engine crankcase too, so the hose from the airbox to the valvecover should be clear and any associated filters clean.

I don't know if anyone can check it correctly without a measurement device. My PCVs always wear out due to weakened spring rather than fouling.

Do you mean the intake manifold by 'airbox'?

NO. Airbox = air filter enclosure or non vacuum side of TB connexion.

Right.
One in, and one out.
So the inlet [usually on the valve cover] must be clean and clear.
It often functions as a filter or oil separator.
Then ALL the rubber elbows, connections, and lines must be perfect, on the actual valve side -trace them and check. The actual PCV valves don't go out often, but if you get a new one, get a good one - factory or the expensive one at the parts counter.

Very simple test 90% accurate. you should be able to blow through it if you blow into the engine side, and not blow through it if you blow from the intake end.

That test won't work on all cars. Many have metered PCV valves with bypass holes, and only a certain sudden pressure will seal them.
