2012 Pentastar 175k doing plugs and PCV

Believe it to be original PCV. Bought an aftermarket SMP brand.

Honestly the original still rattles fine, sounds like the new one. The only difference is in the opening. I would say the original is wallowed out with age and use except it appears to be that diameter intentionally, with the interior plastic ribs extending all the way to lip and the diaphragm and being turned in rather than the new one which has no lip and is just paper thin at the edge.

No issues with the PCV system in general and honestly I don’t see any compelling reason to not keep using the original.

Any thoughts?

Given the thicker inside edge of the OE PCV valve, can we conclude the OE part is better made?

What you're seeing is where those ridges allowed it to fold inward when it was put on. When new, its opening would have looked like the new aftermarket valve. The new MOPAR ones I've seen have a smaller opening than the ones I've taken off.

Replace it. It's not if it will wear out and let oil pass, it's when.
Some of the over the cam sealing PCV pucks have a replacement seal available. I just replace the whole thing because as the rubber wears and ages oil consumption can start. I still have a MB OM642 Diesel and it's amazing how a new one will "fix" oil consumption in them - or just oil found in the intake. People go to all kinds of lengths to modify the tubes, put in catch cans, etc, but won't believe the rubber seal needs to be replaced to stop the oil flow.

Even though a PCV rattles, it doesn't mean it's functioning correctly. I was fooled by the rattle test....once.

If you feel better testing it, this is the only test that I'm familiar with:
