I was never a big fan of Pat Buchanan. And now he is just another Book Pedeler.

All these books written by folks in the Beltway..who have not a clue about the real world.

I do think he is right in many cases. I don't think Bush is conservative other then his policies on gay mariage and stem cell research. His tax cuts were off set by huge spending increases. Part of that is this war on terror. Al, is Bush the only guy who do like?

The problem is way deeper than President Bush though. He is just the tip of the iceberg. No one in Washington cares about the good about the Country anymore. Its all about Power and which party controls it.

Its obviously more important than:

Energy Crisis
Litigation
National Debt
Failing Government Schools
Immigration Crisis
Lack of Health Coverage and cost thereof
Failing Social Security System.

Fortunately though Politicians can argue about Gay Rights, Stem Cell Research, Aboutions, Political Correctness, Kerry's Vietnam Career

I agree with Al.

That's why I vote as conservative as possible knowing they will all fall short of that lofty mark.

Oh, and Pat Buchanan stopped being a conservative sometime after his first run for President. Don't forget, the last time he ran, his VP pick was an out-and-out Socialist.

I'm glad he's not running anymore. It wasn't even much fan laughing at him toward the end.

I can't remember all the positions of everybody that ever ran for president, but Pat Buchanan may be a good example of the difference between conservative and right wing. He is definitely for big government on social issues. I consider abortion murder, but do not see the solution coming from Washington the state capitals. He also supports intervention in the economy.

All real conservatives are disappointed with Bush. However, he is a big step up from Clinton and far better than Kerry would be.

I don't know, labman. Pat Buchanan used to tow the conservative line ... but after a postal-worker-shooting, he came out against anything the media called an "assault weapon"

and weeks later, he changed his mind again.

When running the first time, the folks in Michigan gave him a bunch of bunk for driving a Mercedes Benz. The next time around he was militant pro-Union.

He has his core beliefs but later in life he was to quick to dump them if he think it will get the support of certain groups. I think abortion is the one issue he's never wavered on.

Years ago, Rush described Buchanan as a "populist" and that seems to fit fairly well. He's a conservative/populist ... which is a very odd animal, indeed.

I'm just glad he's not running anymore.

Yeah, Pitchfork Pat left the reservation a long time ago. Crying for Govt. protection of industries sounds more lib/populist than a free market conservative. He is great at coming up with catchy phrases but that is all.

He also knows 2 things:
1) the mainstream media will sprout a chubby anytime a supposed conservative criticizes fellow conservativs. This helps his book sales.

Notice how Ron (fruitcake) Reagan jr. speaking at DemocRAT convention got a lot more press than Dem. Senator Zell Miller keynoting the GOP convention?

2) Pat's use of the term Neocon is pretty close to libs like Chris (Fathead) Matthews. Neocons = Jews and Pat has had some issues with them before.

same crap different day....

patb is too much an isolationist.

given his way he would build a wall around the united states. he believes this would solve america's problems. we would eliminate trade deficits and our american "culture" would not leak into foreign lands and incite them to terrorize us.

a pretty useless and limited vision. on the other hand he is usually amusing on the mclaughlin group.

I've heard "neo-cons" defined as liberals who couldn't reconcile the goverment taking 50% of their income.

It's hard to tell what someone actually means when they use a convenient label, but the prefix neo- means new.

Whether the neocons are the "new" conservatives or fake conservatives is debatable.
