Parking Places

My mother has been in a extended care facility for five weeks so far.
I see her often and fortunately she is improving due to the great care she is receiving.

It's the little things but I'm driving my new hybrid and I put on 3000 plus miles in one month seeing her. I don't like dings in my car and this place makes life easy for people like us.
All parking places are wide and laid out diagonally and its not even possible to hit the car next to you. I've never seen a parking lot like it and the owner has to be a car guy. I know that its trivial but much appreciated. Its not a happy place but it makes it easy to get in and out without issues.

I saw a parking lot outside a nursing home where the entire front row were literally all handicapped spaces.

I remember the 80s when they had "compact car parking" and now with everyone driving behemoths it's starting to get tight in normal spots now.

I definitely prefer diagonal spots for lower chances of dents.

I always park at the end of the lot, in and end spot, and our record has bedn pretty good with dents. None to speak of on any of our six cars, believe it or not. Other road damage from rocks and whatnot, sure. But not from fat, careless people.

+1. Exactly. I park at a end spot almost always. This helps quite a bit. I park very close to the curb and leaves plenty of room for the other vehicles door to open. Only problem for me is when I get out if my car I have to be careful not to get my foot in a spot where I could hurt my foot. I also like the angled parking spots better and usually these spots are a bit bigger as well.

The only option I have when I take the wife in for her treatments is a large parking garage. Normally when we get back to the car, vehicles are so close to mine I have to back out before the wife can even get back in the car, plus sometimes I have a hard time getting in the driver's side. Hard to believe, but have yet to get a ding in the car doors. I really think most people tend to be as careful as possible when getting out of their cars. Probably the worse in a parking lot is kids, who just don't think about it.

Haha I remember those compact car parking spots. I'd forgotten about all about that!!

Funny thing is that full-size sedans and station wagons back in the 80s actually took up more space than these "behemoths" that people drive these days.

Compact spaces still exist. Some lots I've seen have compact spaces where spaces is shorter due to a curb - possibly where there's a small tree planted. The width is the same as the other spaces, but they're shorter. I've seen some large vehicles parked in them. They just stick out into the lane of traffic.

Now I've had issues in Costco or Walmart parking lots. They have huge parking spaces, yet I've seen cars that are still in another space. Sometimes I wonder why they don't just shrink their parking spaces so more cars can park closer. Even the local Walmart
