Why do people get so bent out of shape about parking by a mailbox? This is twice I've had somebody tell me I'm too close to their mail box this year. I pay $1500 a year for commercial vehicle insurance, if they want me to park somewhere else they can pay for it. Telling somebody else where to park has never even crossed my mind. I can't believe some of the things that [censored] people off. Gets me all worked up about stupid things.

Maybe they are concerned about the carrier being able to deliver their mail? That's about the only reason that comes to mind.

"Too close to the mailbox" would be if you knocked it over

If their letter carrier can't get to the box, they don't get mail.

We have that happen from time to time during winter and summer breaks when we and the neighbors have kids home from college and they don't park away from the boxes.

So if you are blocking the letter carrier from driving up to the box, preventing mail delivery, you are the problem in that scenario and you need to park elsewhere.

On many routes, the letter carrier will not exit the vehicle to go around one blocking the mailbox.

The home owner shouldn't care, but I know mailmen don't like it because they have to get out of their vehicle to deliver the mail

The OP lives in Houston.....

Not sure on them city people, but the country etiquette is a "no parking" zone two car lengths on either side of a mailbox.

Mailboxes are federal property. Federal laws prohibit mail theft, obstruction of mail, and mail fraud.

Yeah I know they won't get out of their vehicle. I've seen them go up curbs and come within 2in of hitting cars just to avoid getting out.

2 car lengths would mean that nobody would be able to park in front of their own house in most neighborhoods.

I always leave plenty of room for a mail truck to fit in except for this time since the mailman already came by.

If you want to park in front of or near your mailbox, then have at it. But don't park in front of or near other people's mailboxes as it may adversely impact them.

Yup, in my old neighborhood my mom would have to go chase down the mail-woman because that idiot was too lazy to get out of the truck. She would drive on the sidewalks

You are assuming that the mail delivery person will bother to get out of their vehicle. I would not make this assumption.

The home owner claims the mail man doesn't deliver the mail, yet I see the mail truck deliver when my truck is parked 5 or 6 times a day. I swear it's like he follows me around. I even cracked a joke about it to him one day. The customer is like he's an [censored], don't worry about it.

Golly, talk about lazy! I'll take their cush job.

In my old neighborhood, the mailman was so frustrated enough to persuade the city to make our side of the street no parking after several complained of not getting their mail on a number of occasions.

Mail carriers do NOT have to leave their truck to deliver mail to a curbside box when it's blocked or hampered by a parked car. A good carrier will do it once in awhile, but if the parking continues, it will be "NO MAIL FOR YOU."

Once you get enough cars parked on the street to obstruct traffic flow the neighborhood looks low rent, no matter how nice the houses. Sorry, my pet peeve.

What the law says about parking near a mail box would be the answer. When a mail deliver has to deal with hundreds of mail boxes a day may be different than your opinion.

Happens in my area all the time.

The real question..... if you know its a issue why do you keep doing it?

Park in front of your own house... (my pet peeve... if I look out my window, I want to see my truck... not the POS some one else drives).
