Pablo.......Amsoil 5w20

Pablo, how come Amsoil doesn't make a Mack-Daddy 5w20 oil for folks that are intent on using the OEM specified grade? The XL is group 3, and some of us want to do extended OCIs with something more robust.

Given that many, many new cars call for 5w20, wouldn't it make sense for them to pony up for API certification on a group 4 or 5 5w20 instead of certifying the XL? Or at least give us a better 5w20. I realize that they offer the 0w20 good stuff. Is it so close to being a 5w20 as to be completely interchangeable?

If you ask me, it's time to eliminate the 5w-x and just produce 0w-x.

I'd disgree.

You can get an EXCELLENT 5w-20 oil on sale for around a buck that will go EASY 5k oci with no worries.

If you only had the 0W-20, the cost would be a lot more for not much of a performance increase.

But if the OP is looking for extended OCIs (over 10k) then the Amsoil 0w-20 is just as good as any 5w-20.

You can use a 0w-20 in place of any 5w-20, same with a 0w30 and 10w30. Mobil 1 was first to make a 0w-20, but because the majority of the public has no idea about oil, nor do they care, people became confused and they switched back to just making a 5w-20.

0W-20 ASM is a superior oil and completely interchangeable with 5W-20.

If you want to use an API oil and stay within 10K or so intervals, what's so bad about XLM 5W-20? It's a really excellent oil.

Terry Dyson mentioned he never saw a bad UOA with Amsoil 5w20 in a previous post about a year ago. He remarked about the irony that 5w20 did so well with group III oil.
