Exactly. Why replace one junk brand with another?

You'd think Fram and Purolator were the only two brands of filters on earth.

Just wanted to let you know that I bought a Fram TG a few hours ago and am glad I did. Also I watching the UFC fights and lo and behold they had Fram logos in the octagon and Fram commercials playing before the fight, which completely proves my earlier point about Fram marketing and how non-BITOGers (which is 99.5% of people who do their own oil changes) don't research filters like you think they do and are influences by branding. I'm just glad they happen to put out some of the better products now too.

The Tough Guard isn't bad ... quite a bit better than the orange can Extended Guard. I'd probably use a TG too.

Wouldn't explain why they use metal end caps on the Ultra!

The only reason the Ultra has metal end caps is to they can glue all the media and wire backing together to the end cap. They could not do that with fiber end caps.
