Excuse the dirty surface I was working on and debris-- it didn't come from the engine, noticed no metal flakes or anything unusual inside any of the filter pleats.

Exhibit A: Mobil1 filter that came off a 2014 Sierra 5.3L, probably around 8K service. Baseplate holes made it clear it was Purolator made. I don't think the metal core should be showing through the filter medium. I didn't manipulate the media in any way for the photo.

Exhibit B: Champion COS3593A filter used on a 2007 Kia Sorento 2.7L V6 for about 7-8K. I've cut these apart before and never had any issues, the $1 something I got them for on Rockauto closeout, well worth the money. No drama is what I like. If there's only one photo, I deliberately shot the side w/ worst pleat spacing.

Exhibit C: Fram Force (xx12060?) --used on my '18 Tour-X. Have to say I'm embarrassed that I bought this. It came from one of the Chain stores (O'Reilly perhaps) with an oil change deal. I thought Fram's worst days were behind them, but this is they typical crap they sold 15+ years ago. Cardboard end caps, very little & cheap filter medium. Sad thing is, this was their mid-tier offering which came with synthetics. I feel bad for the folks that got the lower end Fram filter when they bought convention oil & filter combo. Probably same thing w/ nitrile ADBV instead of silicone.

Exhibit D: Kawasaki OEM filter that came with my new zero-turn. Engine model is FR730V, filter only had 5 hours on it. Looks like a stout filter, pleat spacing was almost magical. I replaced it w/ a oversized filter I had (Fram PH16 size) with a 3/4-16 thread that had similar specs. I might go back to OEM after seeing this.

The M1 filters have been a no-go for a little while. as far as the fram goes, i will NEVER spin on a cardboard end cap but it didn’t look like it tore. that filter came from Advance Autoparts. the kawasaki looks excellent. thanks for the photos.

Sad thing is, that Fram Farce actually has a pretty high price tag at AAP-it’s generally twice as much as the vastly superior CQ Premium Blue.
Now than I'm thinking about it, I did buy the Fram Force at AAP-- it came with a Fram Synthetic (made by Amalie) oil change deal that was too good to pass up. It took 10 minutes for a manager to approve my 5 single quarts of 0w-40 because it doesn't come in 5 quart jugs, while people waited behind me. I won't do it again.

I've never seen the "Force" elsewhere so I'm wondering if this is an exclusive filter for AAP.

Nice photos and write ups. What oil went back in your zero turn? Thank You, I very much appreciate it. Purolators= still GARBAGE!

I used Mystik 15w-50 semi-synthetic. Think it's made by Citgo, there's a VOA floating around here somewhere. Kawasaki issued a bulletin a few years ago to dealers that went against their universal 10w-30 recommendation they had back in the day. Basically suggestion folks use thicker oils because of oil consumption. Now the manual gives you a choice, and the 15w-50 chart covers all the temperatures I intend to operate this machine in.
