Over sized filter really any better?

Well "in general" bigger is better for the reasons posted above no matter how minuet.

im for the bigger filter!! more flow more capacity!! people spend alot of money for a deeper pan just to get one more qt. it will give you cooler oil and the oil will last longer.
i wish i could find one to fit my truck!! i would love to take my capacity up to 8 or 9 qts. i would go 20k ocis then and just change the filter and add every 5k

And lower oil velocity usually means a little better filtration, all other things being equal. I know the factory size filter works, and with warranty issues it should be used, but I tend to like a bigger filter, too.

Also more holding capacity - I figure a 2x oversized filter has 2x the holding capacity and can go 2x the mileage, so it supports long OCIs.

I use a oversized filter on the Tacoma. It adds .2 qrts extra. If it cost more I wouldn't run it.
