The only thing I might want is a better designed drain. Like maybe a removable grate over that trench. Or better yet a narrow piece that matches the floor that goes almost to the wall to allow a gap for water to go under to that drain. I have seen stuff like that.

I don't see why reaching an arm in and turning the shower valve on, letting it warm up, then stepping in is an issue that needs to be solved with an opposite wall location for the valve from the head.
