I am now back in a vehicle that doesn't have an outside temperature display or a compass. I don't use a compass much other than when I am on a road I don't know that appears to be taking me in the wrong direction but I like to know the temperature.

Is there anything that anyone has used that works good and doesn't look out of place in a vehicle? I am thinking about doing an a pillar gauge pod with oil temp and trans temp and air temp but the air temp gauges I am finding seam expensive.

You can get an auto darkening rear view mirror with compass and ambient temp display for about 120.00 from amazon. I put one in each of my cars and love it. They have them with map lites also.
They are made by Donelly which is an OEM supplier to the auto industry.

I hadn't thought of this but man are they expensive.

The different may be 3-4F at most within 5-10 miles.

Is there an app to get temperature to display on a smart phone ?

Eons ago I bought a cheapo thermometer from Walmart. It ran off an AA or two, and had a small temp sensor on a 6' wire. Maybe they still have one in the auto section, although Amazon is probably a better bet.

My camper has a very similar one, but it shows indoor/outdoor temp. So maybe an RV store would have similar.

Of course, neither have a decent backlight. But maybe with some shopping on Amazon you'll find something that is powered off the cig lighter with a decent backlight.

I too have grown to like the outdoor temp. It's really only "necessary" around freezing, so as to give an idea as to road conditions. The rest of the time... it's just nice to have.
