First if you weren't already aware, there was an engine change from 2011 to 2012. 2011 was the last year of the 3.8L and 2012 was the first year for the new 3.6L. (IMO they should still have the 4.0L I-6) I believe they did go back to 5W-20 for 2013 so really you should be fine with either, but for warranty purposes I would stick to what your owners manual says for your particular year.

I am aware- that is why I went for the 2012...the 2011 engine was so weak. I was driving/testing some 4.0s in the final stages of my shopping process and eliminated the 3.8s, but ended up preferring the 3.6 and so bought a new one. It isn't bad...could use more torque but with my high gearing (4.1) it does very well offroad.

Yeah, weird how they make those changes for the same engine (2012->2013) though my manual and the oil cap says 5W-30. I am sure either would be fine, as you say. I have always used 5W30 for all my vehicles and will stick to it, since I use good synthetics.

If you have a NAPA near you why not try their synthetic oil as it is on sale for $3.49 qt. and it is made by Ashland (so basically it is almost identical to Synpower).

Good idea. I'll check if it meets that Chrysler spec. I am under warranty, so it's one less issue to worry about if something goes wrong.
