Anyone ordered a car battery from either place? If I go to a physical store I can see the mfg date before I hand over my $$. But how about if they ship me an 8 month old battery?

Last 2 - 3 batteries I have purchased were at Walmart . Can you order a battery cheaper than Walmnart sells them ?

ordered three AGM's from Amazon, last two were direct shipped from manufacturer, no issues/worries. If shopping local, COSTCO has Interstates and Sams Club has Duracell/Deka's. Got those too with no worries.

I am going for quality rather than absolute lowest price. Awhile ago Walmart Everstart batteries in NY said JCI was mfg. Now they do not say any mfg.

From Amazon or BatteryMart I can get a Deka.

I would check into the warranty and how it works. When the battery goes bad will you have to ship it to them so they can test it for replacement, that could get spendy if you have to pay shipping.

As often as batteries fail I would think convenience of an easy return would be important.

OReilly and Napa are East Penn.

Who is the seller on Amazon? I'd read through any reviews if there are any.

Last Feb I bought a car battery from Lowe's, because it was the best price I could get for any Group 51 battery. They couldn't ship it to my home through normal freight services. My options were to pick it up at a store or have it delivered to my home for $70 (I think about their cost for delivering appliances) after it went through a store first. They don't sell car batteries on site (like Home Depot does) and they refused to take my battery. But the battery had a 02/08 date code. I eventually got a refund of my core fee where they told me to dispose of it legally.

Does that even matter on a AGM battery?

Just playing devils advocate, since I would only buy a car battery locally.

FWIW, when my friend needs a battery for her car, I told her to buy it from OReilly since it is Deka battery.
That thing gave up less than 1 year.
At least she got it replaced for free.

So, nothing is immune from bad QC even Deka.
May be just a fluke.

Why would you think an AGM would be an exception? Doesn't matter if it's a flooded or AGM, batteries will only last so long. So a fresher battery is always better than an older battery especially if you lose the receipt at some point and they just go by the date on the battery. I'd like to hear how you think paying the same amount for an 8 month old AGM is just as good as a 1 month old AGM. Like saying it's ok the pay the same price for a 2018 car than a 2019 one.

Im surprised places let batteries sit on shelves for so long, Interstate comes by every 3 weeks or so to rotate stock, and even the batteries from my suppliers are never more than 2 months old max, most are usually the month before.

AGM batteries are less prone to sulfation. Not saying that fresher isn't better, but it is what it is.

AGM has very low internal resistance, is capable to deliver high currents on demand and offers a relatively long service life, even when deep cycled. AGM is maintenance free, provides good electrical reliability and is lighter than the flooded lead acid type. While regular lead acid batteries need a topping charge every six months to prevent the buildup of sulfation, AGM batteries are less prone to sulfation and can sit in storage for longer before a charge becomes necessary. The battery stands up well to low temperatures and has a low self-discharge.

Which means it's not made by JCI and likely made by East Penn. On the top of the battery where it says model, the first two letters will start with "EP". Also there's no raised vent caps is another way to tell. I just bought two of them over the last two weeks. One battery had a 12/18 date and the other was 1/19. I emailed EP with my zip code and they told me which nearby Walmarts stock their batteries. Now it seems all stores are carrying more and more EP batteries. Maybe half the stores batteries are made by EP from what I noticed.

O'Reilly offers a 36 month free replacement warranty on their AGM batteries.

NAPA offers a 18 month free replacement warranty on their AGM batteries.

Autozone offers a 36 month free replacement warranty on their AGM batteries.

except for lighter motorcycle, etc batteries best buy locally! factory sealed AGM's must be FRESH 3 mo or less, but many batteries stored DRY + activated as need are ALWAYS fresh!!

Like others said, buying local is the best bet for warranty purposes.
Yeah, I agree and what the heck, I believe Walmarts warranty still is over the counter exchange for 36 months, cant go wrong with that, no prorating.
... after that, if you go three years, heck in the fourth year throw it out just as you would the batteries in your TV remote before it goes bad and buy a new one.
The heat in the South is torture on batteries and over the last 12 years or so, I think I got free replacements 2 times on two different vehicles out of 3 as I approached that magic end of the 36 month warranty. Normally after you replace the OEM battery after 3 or 4 years, you get a Walmart and another 3+ years go by and most move onto another car anyway but if it fails before the 3 years, Walmart gives you a new one.

do they give you the same type of battery???...the reason I mention this is because the original owner of my F150 (whom I know) had a top of the line Interstate and when it went bad during the warranty period it was replaced with a "replacement battery" from Interstate with less warranty (18 months) and specs (lower CCA/CA/RC)...I have read this with the Walmart EverStart Maxx batteries being replaced with one of the lower warranty batteries sold by Walmart.

This would still get you through the original warranty promised with your purchase but I know several people believed that if a 3 year warranty battery failed, their replacement would be another 3 year warranty battery and that hasn't been the case in my experience with the F150 or others I have read on the errornet...YMMV
